Orienteering 1:31:50 [3] 14.1 km (6:31 / km)

Long training. In what I from hence forth shall call velociraptor training: i.e. group hunting. Ran with Ida and Hollie, alternating alpha velociraptor, i.e. lead navigator, on each leg or two.
Did this through to 18 (~7-8km), then split up into individual training.
Super fast open 'forest' (scattered trees any where else), fairly broad contour detail with rock outcrops, Fences, and the odd wild boar.

WU from hotel to the arena

Orienteering 36:45 [4] 5.54 km (6:38 / km) +177m 5:43 / km

NAOM middle #2,
Clean run. wooo, what a difference that makes ;) a couple more dodgy route choices today which cost me; 3-4, exiting no. 9, long leg to 14, and the final run in to the last control...
did not fall down any holes in the rocks. winner.

Running 14:06 [3] 2.37 km (5:58 / km) +24m 5:41 / km

WD back toward the hotel. Til Ida picked me up at the bottom of the hill. Perfect timing. (also, I missed the junction...oops)

Orienteering race 42:00 [3] 5.0 km (8:24 / km)

NAOM middle WRE.

Physically and mentally struggled at race pace today. Just a bit too short turn around. First half went alright but things started falling apart from #7, with wrong exit directions and a couple of dodgy route choices. In-the-circle work was pretty good, but very easy to lose time amongst the wet and slippery rocks when the brain wasn't fully engaged. 'only' 10 mins behind Tove.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 4.0 km (5:00 / km)

Orienteering 48:42 [3] 6.92 km (7:02 / km) +57m 6:46 / km

Middle distance training on Arez. Had Eva tailing me which was good; keeping me on my toes and verbalising what I expected to see next. Was a bit slack with my planning for legs ahead, but got away with it on the jetlag excuse ;) Not that that will fly in the race tomorrow.

Orienteering 46:10 [2] 5.92 km (7:48 / km) +99m 7:12 / km

Middle on Quinta das Lavandas.
At a jog again, which made it much easier to keep navigationally in touch I suspect. Body feeling fine, and head much less heavy than yesterday. Will be interesting to see what happens when i try and run a bit faster, both navigationally and physically.

Orienteering 32:28 [3] 5.5 km (5:54 / km) +21m 5:47 / km

Simplification exercise on Carapinha. Pretty tough, as the map was pre simplified, with one or two rocks left on and some contours. Some times the one rock that was left on had 5 unmapped ones around it, which was confusing as heck.
Beautiful running though, like a (waterlogged) fairway.

Orienteering 44:17 [3] 5.73 km (7:44 / km) +140m 6:53 / km

First training in Portugal. Cruised around the first few butterflies at a jog. Terrain has it's similarities to Aus, which is good.
Jetlag has been an absolute bitch so far, so even if nothing else, getting out for a jog reduced the chances of me succumbing to an afternoon sleep.

Kind of feeling the opposite as I did going Nor-Aus in december; I feel physically OK running, but sleepy as. The temperature difference isn't as bad this time though. It's just like a bad NZ summer day.
