Pan Våren middle (or short)

My first win on Scandinavian soil. Wooo. Took some NZ terrain to get there, but it all counts :) Yeah, everything just flowed and felt comfortable today - could read and interpret the map on the run. Knew how to take direct routes but limit the number of dunes to climb. The flags showed up where I wanted them to be, and my body let me push it right to the end.
Just a slip of direction on the longer leg to 3 which cost me 20s or so, lucky I wasn't made to regret it.

Not sure what was up with my gps - had it in my back pocket so think it's dropped out mid course a few times. It was short, but def. longer than 1.9km

Pan-Våren night mass start (incl. WU time, and some standing before the start)

Late decision to join for Skåne lager, mainly as it's sand dune terrain. Wasn't convinced about doing the night mass start though, as I'd rather just do the day races. Found myself on the start line though, and enjoyed it once out. Even in the dark the sand dunes just felt comfortable and familiar. Was with Ane and Eva at #5, but then had a different split and was pretty much alone the entire rest of the course!
Had a clean first loop, and felt good still into the 2nd loop. Assumed that there would be a lead group a couple of mins in front of me as, even though I was on a good run, c'mon...it's still night-o, not exactly my forte.
Lost direction on the long leg a bit, letting 30-40s slip, and tucked in behind a Pan-Arhus girl with blonde hair (...so, y'know, any one of them). About 10s later she headed to a different split and I was alone again.
And then. I blew it. 3rd to last control was a short leg and I didn't take the time to get my direction. And it was to a control I'd already had on my first loop, just to rub the salt in. 1.40 min mistake which at the time felt crap, but after - when I saw I was 1.40 behind the winner...it felt a bit more shit! I must have been either in the lead, or in a dead heat before the brain explosion.
These things happen. Nice bit of confidence to be fighting for the lead though.

HDNC Prestebakke. (incl WU)

Started off OK really, not brilliant, but OK. Was delayed on the routechoice to #2, and ended on the poweline to #5, but so did a fair few people.
Then started getting sloppy ~#7. And stayed sloppy through to the end of the course, just leaking time.

And yet pretty happy all up. To get straight back into that terrain, at night, a day after returning to Halden, of course I wasn't going to be great.

Run up Schenbelhorn with Lukas. A long toil up the road to the hotel, then a scramble up the snowy ridge to the top. Bit windy on top to stop and admire the surrounds for too long, but a beautiful run along and down the ridge from there back to Steg.
