Running 13:00 [3] 2.45 km (5:18 / km)

Needed this to make my km rate look anywhere near decent for the session.

Orienteering 1:04:00 [3] 6.7 km (9:33 / km) +150m 8:35 / km

Half of a long distance on Rudskogen. Chosen as it went into a part of the map I hadn't been before which looked nice (less green and detailed than the other part). Wow. I was wrong. Such high heather and marshes galore made for a tough day out. Slogged it through.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3] 12.5 km (7:12 / km) +290m 6:27 / km

Middle-Long dist training at Isebakketjern with the swedes et al. First half was middle distance style (but on 1:15000 just for extra kicks). Second half was some long distance route choices.
Again, took ankle a bit to warm into it - might need to consider a longer, terrain WU for race?
Middle went alright enough. Was caught by Sara (2mins) who then made a big mistake, closely followed by Marika (4mins) and Tove (6mins, with Thierry in tow with camera). Kept Marika all but in sight til the end, thanks to getting controls cleanly. Although she slipped away a bit on one control where I decided to trust the re-emerged Sara instead of myself. Doh.

Ankle feeling weak by the end of the middle, but thought to keep going as I need a long session or two before WOC, and the tape was doing its job. Took a bit of a drink and breather on the run through before restarting on the long.
The LD part had two long route choices. The first I considered the straighter option first up, but opted for the long and around option as it had minimal climb and terrain and fast running. The straighter was possibly faster if you executed it well, but was much harder to execute well I think. So happy with my choice.
Happy again with my micro route choices toward the end of the second long leg. Was then just a stumble/bash through the heatehr to the finish.

Glad to get the session done, but ankle feeling very weak by the end. But it's survived 4 forest sessions in a week, so not bad considering.

Running 11:00 [2] 1.7 km (6:28 / km)

jog to start, and to reclaim my drink bottle after

Bike up to Høiås via Venås. Ankle didn't appreciate the jarring on the rooty single tracks, nor when I stood up in the saddle up hills. *sigh*

Running warm up/down 27:00 [3] 4.0 km (6:45 / km)

Orienteering 23:00 [3] 3.15 km (7:18 / km)

Relay training with the Swedes and a load of other countries. Ankle feeling it on the WU but alright once going with a map in hand. Stuck with the head(ish) of the pack until the split on #3 which broke the race open. In particular, anyone with the far split got a very rough deal and was fighting tooth and nail to make the restart for the 2nd interval (not sure if any actually made it?). I had the middle split but was too low on the slope, so lost the lead pack and was fighting with the Austrians and French for the rest of the int.
Made it with -3s to rest before the start of the next interval. Slightly unimpressed that I had to keep going and couldn't just have a breather!

Legs better than Sunday in any case.

Orienteering 24:20 [3] 3.4 km (7:09 / km)

Rolling start onto the 2nd int. Stayed on the track longer for a 'rest'. Often a stupid thing to do in this terrain, but worked alright here. Tucked in behind Venla and Shallot up to the first control (loose term, tucked in, I was actually 20-40m back!). Bad route to the 2nd control as I was too in oxygen debt to take my own exit direction from #1. Was kicking myself for it about 50m later. Caught Eveliina at #3 and kept with her until the run through, when Marika unexpectedly came from behind. They cuaght a break after we re-entered the forest after the runthrough. Not sure how, they kinda just disappeared? Anyway, I was left to battle with Ursula and Laura through the last controls.

Again, it's taking a bit to swallow just how far behind I am after some weeks out. But have to trust that I can get the terrain fitness back within 4 weeks.

Orienteering race 43:00 [4] 5.25 km (8:11 / km) +150m 7:10 / km

WOC middle test race.

Overall happy with how this went. Ankle was pretty alright out in the terrain and found I could focus more on the orienteering than on how it was feeling. My legs, however, were not so happy about being back running in terrain again! Oh boy, so sore and tired all over!
Did an alright job of ignoring the complaints from my legs and focusing on enjoying being back out in the forest. No great speed, and a 1min slip on #5 (maybe, from memory). Caught by Venla on the last loop and stuck with her a couple of controls until she got a better line than me into the second last, and she was gone. Annoyed she put 30s on me to the finish from there!

All in all, I was a fair way off the pace, but at least one step closer to back on track for WOC.
