IOC Long
Was looking forward to this one, I hadn't won it before and I though this would be my chance. I'm still not sure why but however I ate that morning really didn't work well. I had some pains in my stomach and was really like bubbly before I started. I took a Rennie in an attempt to calm it down and it seemed to do something anyway.
Started really well, nailed 1, 2 and 3. I got a bit cocky then and just ran in the general direction of 4, but the map was probably over detailed and I was enjoying the running and didn't want to slow down.
Similar but more costly mistake on 5, ended up a good bit too far past it.
Got it together then and I could see Andrew Quin in the distance so pushed a wee bit to catch him. Slight miss on 8 but then I was feeling good and getting stuff well and I was just behind him at 11. Passed him on the way to 12, I probably could have found a better line through the rocks but nothing too bad.
I got confused by Christian at just after 12, I assumed he'd be on the same course but he punched 12 and then headed off up the hill I'd just come down. With 15 just below 12 and their numbers 224 and 242 I was really paranoid that I might have overshot and got 15 by accident, especially when I found an unmarked crag on the way to 13 that looked really like one lower down the hill. Thankfully 13 appeared on around the corner and I was above it, so all was well.
14 was fun. Another miss on 15, I just didn't want to go uphill so I stayed too low.
Stomach started feeling a bit funky again on the way to 16. It wasn't so bad but it was annoying. Took a gel on the way up to 18, hoped it might settle the stomach a bit but it didn't.
AP splits don't see it but I reckon I lost 20-30 secs on 19. I veered way too low and was really hesitant for a lot of the way. I relocated off the track and the just had to climb till I got it. Next few were fine, but once I had to climb again to 23 I felt awful. My stomach just felt really bad and I couldn't push as well normally can.
I figured I'd done enough to get the win if I could hold it together so I struggled on.
I caught Donal Burke at 28, I made a mistake and hit the fence halfway between the 2 crossing points. He just hopped it but I went down. I was glad he was there at the end, or I might have gone a good bit slower.

I'm not sure what was up with what I ate, but I need to be sure it doesn't happen again. It's hard to tell as well how much the tiredness at the end was just my fitness and how much was the stomach. I'm really happy with the way I was running for most of the first 12 controls though, and I obviously really happy to get the win.
