Oing in Redwoods park in Rotorua.
Thought the starts were from 6, but it was actually a mass start at 5:30, so we were well late. Gina entered me as I changed and set off nearly 15 mins late. Spent the course catching people which was fun. Looked like it might be possible to clear it but had a few weird parts and then I had to skip some near the end. Got to the finish at exactly the hour mark though and took a sneaky victory.

Tongariro crossing backwards.
Gina dropped me off at the end where I ran it backwards. Pretty foggy at first up the big climb which was kinda nice, keeping me cool. It was a bit of a grind but the gradient wasn't too bad so was able to just tip away at it. Started meeting many people once I was out of the forest really, near the sulphur smelling part. At the top of the first climb the cloud started to lift a bit and I stopped for some photos, ate on the move though, some tasty jelly snakes. More photos in the valley before the big sandy climb to the summit where the clouds cleared for like 2 mins so I used all that time. Then some sweet sweet descent. The big flat crater was a bit mad but I was flying along. Met Gina just below that and she gave me the key so I could drive around and pick her up. Last bit I worked harder on, wasn't steep but just a nice downhill.
Very enjoyable but had I realised I might have skipped the photos to take that CR. Only 7 mins off it. If I ever do it again...
Had a sneaky hot soup and a coke before driving around to meet Gina and head north to Taupo then. Stopped at our previous days lake stop for a dip as the sun was out in full by then.

An easy run from a lovely lakeside spot. Loads of pumice floating in the water which was a bit mad. Nice riverside path then too and there were a few shags about. Followed by a dip in the lake and throwing the ball around. Free campsite for sleeping too.
