Run up to the top of the castle in Alicante from sea level with Kieran and a bit of a jog around at the top to look at the sights! I didnt get satellites until about half way up. I think it would be a really interesting hill race

O-training 24:20 intensity: (31 @1) + (41 @2) + (3:15 @3) + (19:53 @4) *** 3.8 km (6:24 / km) +224m 4:57 / km

Ran the sprint course from WUOC for fun, It wasn't fun... Very hilly and hot. Went for a swim into the sea to cool down after. It wasn't very cool.

Many thanks to the Canadians for minding my gear

Orienteering 47:40 [4] ***** 5.4 km (8:50 / km)
spiked:13/19c shoes: VJ

WUOC middle

A real tricky area, open with many many bits of green (look at the map when I upload it)
It was hard to keep direction and find controls in the circles. I suffered from the heat and lack of fitness near the end and had a terrible miss on on the second last from me being silly and brain dead. Apart from that and a few controls being behind me when i got into the area I was happy enough. Crossing the ravines was tough too.

66th of 102 today, so similar position as long but ahead of more people!

Orienteering race 52:00 [5] **** 6.0 km (8:40 / km) +200m 7:26 / km
shoes: VJ

WUOC relay. Ran second leg on a mixed team with Soren Reichers on first and an Italian on last (I think his name was tomasso...)
Was alright at first, went out just behind John Willia,ms of the USA but he took a different route off the path from me to 1 and i never saw him again... was clean then until 6 but was starting to suffer from climbing out of the ravines. took a terrible route to 7 choosing to go down the ravine and follow the meanders. then i was concentrating on running and missed 9 too low on my re-entrant, found 30 on a crag, not mine, look up, see a control further up, 31, also on a crag, not mine, see another further up, 32 mine! then made a haimes of ten by just not paying attention. after the spectator was fine but saw the leaders on last leg fly past just at the second last.

Not a good run really, started off well but i focused too much on being unfit and trying to run. I need to let the running happen and do the orienteering more

Really easy jog around the campus to try and loosen the legs out a bit after yesterday

WUOC long.

This was long anyway. It was hot and steep and rough going. A lot of the gorund was gravelly so contouring was really hard going and there were small bushes everywhere so you couldnt see the ground a lot of the time either! I felt good until about 17 but then the energy gels that I failed to bring with me began to play a role and I really suffered around the last bit of the course.
Poured and drank a lot of water on the course, we had 6 drinks stations!, took a 500ml bottle at each. Only lost about 2 mins navigationally but I definitely lost more due to tiredness after bad route choice, especially 18. I probably would have been tired at the end anyway so it's hard to know I guess.

Shared a moment with a Bulgarian girl as I was running up to what I thought was just a little river bed, turned out to be maybe 12ft deep with sheer sides, she was just after climbing through at a slightly shallower part. it a moment earlier and found my excalmation entertaining. I jumped it...Overall happy enough. I'll take a lot of confidence in more orienteering but I need to work on route choice when I'm tired on 1:15k as it just doesn't come naturally enough to me, that and my fitness for long distance in the heat!

There was a lot of cool rock features about today too and it would be worth going back to some of the area just to look at them!

WUOC model event on Caravasi, beside the middle and relay areas. Not hugely relevant I don't think but it was nice to see what the terrain might be like!
It was rocky enough undefoot but nice.

Map

Had a bit of a swim in the sea after!
