miserable steady cold rain that woud make one envious of the folk pulling chollo cactus out of their feet at Anzo-Borrego. Vrey good run tho, except for a 20 second boom of the go control. I felt it was mishung at the time, but it was not. I do, however, still feel the map may have been a bit iffy in the area, but I was too cold and wet to care to check. Map seems a bit over general at times, and sometimes I felt frustrated about it, until I forced myself into a different interpretation mindset, at which time I was fine. Forest was generally open and pleasant, a nice change from venue selectors who feel it isn't real orienteering unless you fight thru 10K of nasty green. When you go to a meet, you can talk all you want about the organization, coursesetting, map, etc., but the fact that they had copious quantities of hot chocolate at the EC cannot be touched.

It seems inconceivable to me that USOF is spending time debating whether to codify a remedy for a competitor who takes the time to assist an injured competitor. To me, they are in different domains, to put it politely, and at the very least, there seem to be bigger fish to fry. Can't these sort of rare cases be handled on site in a common sense manner as they come up? Is it really possible or productive to write rules in an attempt to handle and anticipate every possible thing that can happen? (The IS rules are already proof that that answer is "NO" :-)). But, USOF is mostly harmless, and I am a self-confessed USOF cynic, so what do I know? To blog about something absolutely galling: anyone besides me noticing the absurd severance packages Wall Street execs are receiving upon being fired for destroying thousands of jobs and billions of equity as they run their firms into the ground, not to mention the widespread collateral damage in progress to people who wouldn't know a CDO from an SUV, much less an SIV. Don't worry, Helicopter Ben is a comin' -- a little late, but 75 bps baby!
