Increase Friday volume by 38% and weekly volume by about 5%. Friday should be fully back on line in 1 or 2 weeks. The challenge will be bringing Wed back; scared to think if the ligament can take 4 straight days with no rest. And then there is the aerobics and speedwork to get back on line. I will probably never return to the strength training; I can feel the strain in the ligament when I lift heavy things. This is unfortunate, as I believe upper body strength training helps running performance.
At least we race on Sunday. The result will suck, and who knows when I'll be back in shape, but it is a pleasure to simply look forward to a race again.
And speaking of music, I wonder if anyone else finds it ironic that the latest commercial by UPS prominately features music by band called "The Postal Service", a direct competitor. Was this intentional? If so, I miss the point. Am I the only geek who notices or cares about these sorts of things? Man, my life is boring.

What a tough run. It actually felt like winter for the first time in as long as I can remember. And I got a blister the size of Texas on one foot from the PF taping that manages to itch and hurt at the same time, and a painful condition where one toenail digs into the other toe. Usually I head this off by keeping my toenails pretty trim, but the changed biomechanics of whatever is going on with my feet is causing this even with a pretty trim nail. Geez, is it worth it? I surely keep the podiatrists fed well.
Speaking of which, it is easy to see why medical costs are out of control. Got my bills from the podiatriast, $115 for a visit, and another $80 for "surgery". I don't remember seeing any scalpels the last time I was there, so I call up to question it. He's charging $80/visit to put moleskin on my feet! Geez, good work if you can get it. I, more than most I guess, am all for doctors being well-fed and realise they go thru alot of crap they shouldn't have to, but this is absurd. So, insurance happily pays for it, and the market for the service of putting moleskin on one's feet remains inefficient. I've seen tons of other cases like this in my medical bills, just never felt like ranting about them. I wonder if I can charge $80 for plugging a computer in? Nope, my wages, unfortunately, are controlled by a much more efficient market. (Granting of course, that efficient markets can be brutal, and its not something I'd wish on anyone, but it would be nice, OTOH, of the lagresse of inefficient markets were more fairly distributed, but also acknowleging, that where there is lagresse, there is someone else being robbed).
Well, I don't write much anymore, and for good reason, obviously. I should write about music, since I'm injured -- its always worked in the past. Unfortunately, aside from Silversun Pickups, I don't hear alot of great stuff coming out at the moment; the biz seems to be in an artistic slump. So, I'll recommend some old school stuff: try to find the Ryko "Mission of Burma" compilation. At least we re-learn how Moby butchered their signature song. God, its amazing that some of that stuff is over 20 years old now, and MoB was very very late in their genre.
As for the injury, I've ditched the custorm orthotics for the OTC ones, for running anyway. I'm now seeing a "sports chiropractor", who's done a few ironmans and who knows how many marathons, so at least knows something about running and its injuries. This seems like a Good Thing. Even better is that 20% of his practice is treating PF, and feels some of the scare tactics others use about running thru PF are misplaced.
An office visit is 75 minutes, and he actually spends time working the ligament and squeezing the scar tissue out of it. I think that is what I need to get over the hump here. We'll see; I went 2.75 days without pain, which is the longest streak, until the pain returned last night.
Well, I guess that's enough for another 6 months.
