| TSN A meet blue day 2
Another day of easy orienteering in spectacular terrain. No cat claw in my face, leg was fine. One error of about 20 seconds, 19 spikes. It does get easier when you get slower. I will say this day was more interesting in terms of route choice. TpK was worse today, but my run felt better. Course was more physical in my opinion. I was very pleased with my run, and I am rarely happy with a day 2 run. Club gets high marks all around for pretty much everything. One observation is that the courses were too short, but USOF custom is clearly evolving towards the 60 minute "classic"; who am I to buck trends, evolution, and progress, especially when my sprint will likely not be in spec. On the tourist front, Saguaro NP is recommended as a must see. That place is awesome. On the avoid list goes Tombstone, can't imagine a more ridiculous place, except perhaps Skagway, Alaska.

decent race. Found the orienteering trivial to easy, yet still managed one screwup. Was at feature, did not see bag. Club gets high marks for day 1, although I would describe the terrain as a bit on the boring side. Beautiful, though, reminded me of Sardinia without the nuraghi. Took a face plant into a "cat claw" bush (I think that is what they are called). They are nasty to run thru, and I assure you not something you want to face plant in. Was a rather nasty fall, and felt my left calf go. Oddly, seemed more like a cramp than a pull, and was able to stretch it out. I was under the impression that cramps where biochemical, and pulls biomechanical, and I am not at all prone to cramps, so I am a bit confused. A little sore now -- here's keeping fingers crossed that it feels ok tomorrow. Nice touch award: Organizers had sunscreen at the start. I'm not aware of sunscreen that comes in 3 oz tubes, so that was appreciated by us out of towners, especially those who flew out of Philly on Friday and were not in a shopping mood upon arrival. Just like GAOC had the hot chocolate. Perhaps I should start the "nice touch" award. It occurs to me that when orienteering moves to a for-profit enterprise, the organizers will be dis-incented to provide "nice touches". And further along in that thinking, it occurs to me there is little incemtive for quality at all. Cutting corners leads to profit, and while I generally agree that market forces can provide incentives for quality, I'm not convinced that applies here, where realistically the "market" will still be the status quo of show up and accept, or stay home. And, once a bid is awarded, its a monopoly (e.g. UA WOC, my pet example). Perhaps we will see multiple for-profit corporations bidding for USOF championships, and reputation will matter, I guess we'll see. Well, battery is charged, I can thankfully stop blogging now. All that is left to do is google "Tucson" "Steak House", then "Tucson", "live music".
