Running warm up/down 11:00 [2] 2.0 km (5:30 / km)

Running 56:00 [2] 11.2 km (5:00 / km)

I could bet that this will the course profile for the 2nd leg. Based on the material I found I added forbidden areas and new logging areas (not shown this map - did it only manually) to the map.

Running warm up/down 11:00 [2] 2.0 km (5:30 / km)

Running 17:30 [4] 5.0 km (3:30 / km)

Interval training on a treadmill. I did 5 x 1000m intervals:
3'40'', 3'35'', 3'30'', 3'25'' and 3'20''.

Running felt good and easy. I was thinking back to Tampere Jukola and my race there. So good memories...

Note

I dug out information about upcoming Jukola and planned potential courses more than four hours. Based on the material I found I'm pretty confident that I now know courses pretty accurately for the 2nd and 4th leg. I will release these next week after I have done the "race". Earlier I was thinking that courses may pass the southern road, but based on the recent information that should not happen.

Increased my speed all the time. Running felt easy and good thought I have had very intense workload lately. 12 to 15 hours work per day is not a sustainable solution. This weekend I really need to sleep well.

Today I spend some time with aerial photos and now it seems that probably courses won't even go to the western part of the map as there have been quite a lot of logging. Today's course includes the best parts (where you can find quite a lot of forest), but also some demanding hills.

When I was heading to 10th control I started to have serious stomach problems and instead of running to 11th control I ran to toilet and stopped my training...

Jukola training on a treadmill:

Very good training! The terrain start to feel pretty familiar to me and for sure this will improve my run in June. Some courses will probably go to southern side of the asphalt road so I need to create couple of that kind of scenarios too.

In Jukola I'm targeting either to 2nd or 4th leg, so this time it was time to run 4th leg training. Once again no mistakes, but one interesting feature is that there are several small but rather high hills in this area.

No mistakes, but better be very careful with the 9th and 10th control area in June.

Running warm up/down 4:00 [2] 0.7 km (5:43 / km)

Running 19:00 [5]

KL Tower race. Originally my should have been at 8 pm, but as my bib number was 1320 (heat 5) and there were 300 runners per heat my start time was around 9 pm. Luckily I was in the start area already around 7 pm so I had enough time to wait...

On Thursday and Friday I had very long workdays, around 15 hours, so my preparation was pretty poor. I started with the full speed and quickly suffered... Once I reached the actual tower and started to climb stairs I had found a suitable speed for me. The heat and humidity was extreme and I passed several people from earlier heats. People were actually laying on the floor or stairs as they were totally exhausted - even in the pretty early phase (low floors). I reach the top after 19 minutes and did not felt too bad and could have done even more floors. There were so many slower runners that some parts it was very difficult to run with a good speed. However finishing with my target time of 16 minutes would have been challenging. The were several runners from Kenya and the best one did under 14 minutes. That's impressive!

Running 15:00 [3]

I did the trial run for Saturdays KL Towerthon race. First I collected my running bid and chip and then headed up to the tower. However it will not be a long race on Saturday, but a tough one for sure. Previous two times some Kenyan guy have won with around 14 min time. Maybe I will do it in 16-17 minutes.

The race start with a 800 m uphill run and after that runners run into the tower and start climbing the stairs. My tactic is as usual - start with a good speed... Anyhow that should be a good tactic as last year there were totally 3000 runners!

Note

I have been a bit sick since my Tiomila "long night".

Sunday May 1, 2011 #

Note

Woke up at 3 am to follow up Tiomila. I watched through the whole relay, but I was not too impressed to our HS guys runs. Some good or okay runs for Eikka, Ati, Mikael and Luke.

Let's hope that in Jukola we succeed better!
