Note
(rest day)

I slept badly last night due to the itchiness of lots of quite sizeable mosquito bites. Then the wind came up again and it started to rain so l gave up on the Byron Bay idea (l later heard it was terribly crowded with school holiday traffic anyway) and headed for home. The roads were really wet and slippery until about Tamworth and l could see why the area is called New England - it is just plain wet and cold! Anyway, l got as far as Gulgong and decided l could go no further and pitched the tent. On wandering around the town l was quite surprised how historic and intricate the town is - really interesting, and l could visualise the Sheehans setting a street-O there. It is also home to 'The Greatest Wonder of the World'.
Re the orienteering carnival -upon reflection, l think l most enjoyed the comeraderie of the women in my age group. There are quite a number of Victorians now and each one of us had our day when we did well, which is encouraging to all of us. It was also good camping as l met and became friends with a number of interstate and overseas people.
