Walk 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)
(injured)

Walk around Blackburn after work. I finished early so could walk in daylight - something l don't see much of these days! I started work at 6.30 this morning, preparing for a workshop scheduled to start at 7.00, so an early finish was acceptable. Knee is improving - although slowly.

Walk 54:00 [3] 5.0 km (10:48 / km)
(injured)

Walk around Blackburn smelling the flowers. I think l might be up to resuming a walking schedule, which is a start. It has been a while!

Pilates 1:00:00 [3]
(injured)

Pilates at lunchtime. I only went once last week and today I noticed the difference the absence of a regular session made. However the problem is that the sessions are terribly expensive and time consuming and I would like to start doing other things. While pilates is good, I don't think it will help me run in the long term.

I need to get a new set of orthotics (I am thinking of going to the Olympic Park sports med centre) to take the weight bearing off the area where the cartilage is worn. You have to keep trying.

I learnt today not to trust the fire brigade. I was the only woman in a meeting in another building today, with fire agency chiefs and deputy chiefs from several agencies, when there was a fire drill. You would have thought they'd all do the chivalrous thing and carry me, sore knee and all, down several flights of stairs to safety. Not so - I lost them all in the crowd, so cheated and caught the lift (a risk, considering lifts go straight to the scene of a fire, when there is a fire, and stop there). By the time I got back to my work, several were already waiting.

Walk/jog 43:00 [3] 5.0 km (8:36 / km)
(injured)

Regardless of whether I should or should not have, I plodded around a short Reef Hills circuit today, alternating jogging and walking. The wattles have started to come out. It was a bitterly cold day today and Peter and I then took the elephant up the Strathbogies for its first experience of mud. Even in the mist, the bush looked beautiful. I haven't been there for ages and it was nice to go past the former site of the Toorour Forest Lodge, where I spent so many of my earlier years conducting fire training courses and, after hours, running around the bush tracks. Happy days!

Swim 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)
(injured)

It was a really wet, cold and miserable day. I swam in the Benalla pool, which was warm and pleasant. First decent swim in ages.

Pilates 1:00:00 [2]
(injured)

Pilates at lunchtime. I had to walk down as there was a climate change demo in Bourke St and no trams. I'm getting stronger and a bit of cabin fever.....however l think the patience may have paid off.

Note

Thank heavens that is over! Even though my event was only a MelBush event, there was a good turnout. The courses were generally well received, within the constraints of the event series, and l am looking forward to my next event. Unfortunately a couple of controls were a bit out - but, in my defence, these were ones l was unable to get to yesterday. And everyone, except one person, came back. Luckily we found him wandering a nearby road, having walked off the map. So all good. I'm glad it is over.

Note

Was it so bad that no-one wants to upset me by posting a blog. C'mon folks........

I walked around the course for my Plenty event tomorrow, putting out controls. This was the furthest l've walked in months and my first walk aound the course. I could have set a much better course if l'd walked around before setting it. Ah well, never mind, there is always the next one. At least l now know how to do it.

Pilates 1:00:00 [3]
(injured)

Pilates after work. I am definitely getting stronger, although the strength js not even on both sides. I should be able to attempt some other forms of exercise soon, although the use of a brace is a given.

I got the maps for my event this Sunday printed today. Of course l found a mistake on the control descriptions as soon as they were printed, sol will have to make a correction. It is going to rain on Sunday.

Pilates 1:00:00 [2]
(injured)

Pilates at lunchtime. I was thinking of giving up attending these sessions as they take about 2 hours out of the middle of the day - by the time I get there and get back! But I am paired up with a rather fit man who doesn't have an injury but swears by the pilates as a way of building his core muscles for cycling. So I guess I will battle on a bit longer as the benefits do seem to be there. I am getting stronger. 'Pie Lattes'!

This week is Naidoc week and yesterday we had the annual dance ceremony on the floor directly above my head. At least this year I know what all the thumping on the ceiling is.

Swim 20:00 [2] 0.5 km (40:00 / km)
(injured)

Swim in the Benalla pool, interspersed with some pool running and stretching. Seemed OK. I forgot to take my earings out until a couple of laps. The pool attendant told me they had a large collection of single earings in the office. One person even lost a diamond from an engagement ring in the pool - but luckily it was found. It is a wet and miserable day in the north east and I have my goddaughter's family coming to stay - with three children under the age of 6. Should be lots of fun.

Pilates 1:00:00 [3]
(injured)

Pilates at lunchtime. I didn't really feel like it. We did a few exercises l thought l shouldn't have done, such as an upside down pilaf, and kneecap slipped bit. I want to be an orienteer, not a ballerina!
