Note
(rest day)

Annual doctor's visit today. I've been seeing that doctor since l was 24 (he's just a couple of years older) and he started with 'l really don't know why you bother coming year after year...' and finished with 'so whatever it is you've been doing, just keep doing that'. I'll take that as good news.

Run 44:15 [3] 6.3 km (7:01 / km)

Run around Blackburn, north of the railway line and through Cootamundra Walk. It was a beautiful morning - a run and a bit of sun on your head always makes you feel better!

Run 38:00 [3] 5.3 km (7:10 / km)

Run around Blackburn lake and creeklands l felt quite sluggish because, even though the weather is mild, l seem to have acquired a winter coat (and pants).

Run 1:04:30 [3] 8.5 km (7:35 / km)

Street O at Cresswell (WOD event 2 for Vic). I haven't run for a week and have sore knees after falling flat on my face when l tripped in a pothole in the dark coming out of the OV AGM last night.. But l got around, although was 4 mins late after following Russell Bulman (who was walking - very fast) to an outlying control. The event was very popular, with lots of scouts. Beautiful day!

Orienteering 1:40:00 [3] 6.3 km (15:52 / km)

Tipperary Springs. I had a wonky tummy all yesterday and right up to midnight - then it mysteriously got better, so l was OK to run today. I can only think the Beechworth bakery may be to blame, as l visited there prior to yesterday's event.
After a stressful morning on registration, where l couldn't remember anyone's name and got freezing cold, l headed off, only to find my knee was sore. The course was steep and had lots of trip hazards and l didn't want to fall, so walked almost all of it, but still managed a trip after catching my foot in some bark, and hurting my knee further. I took a bad route choice on the longest leg but was otherwise clean.
I am still puzzled as to why BKV / OVic insist on running events in Daylesford in the colder months, and in the north east in the summer months, rather than the other way around.

Orienteering 1:02:00 [3] 5.5 km (11:16 / km)

Victorian middle distance championships. I wasn't terribly accurate with any of the navigation, and then got a wonky tummy half way around, but managed to make it to the finish without disaster. It was a good course and great to be Inside The Fence. Thanks Bendigo.

Run 31:15 [3] 4.5 km (6:57 / km)

An elderly Benalla neighbour lent me her new dog to take for a run. I've never run with a dog before and enjoyed every minute of it. The dog took off at a great pace, and l could hardly keep up, then faded in the second half. She soon learnt she couldn't stop to sniff every tree and settled into a steady pace. We had 3 wee stops (her, not me). Loved it.
Could start a new business - dog running services!

Tuesday May 15, 2018 #

Run 37:20 [3] 5.4 km (6:55 / km)

Run around Benalla lake and gardens.

Sunday May 13, 2018 #

MTBO 1:54:00 [3] 17.5 km (6:31 / km)

AWOC event at Chiltern. Beautiful sunny day and nice tracks. Somehow l missed punching one control (which l visited). Shame.

Thursday May 10, 2018 #

Run 50:00 [3] 7.0 km (7:09 / km)

Run around Blackburn creeklands and lake (where the absence of signage would indicate it is much safer than Benalla). I'm still not breathing well (possibly a cold coming on) but was otherwise comfortable. I timed the run to take advantage of the sunshine between forecast showers, and it was quite lovely - sunny and fresh!

Run 31:39 [3] 4.6 km (6:53 / km)

Run around Benalla lake. I felt a bit heavy and breathless. It was a pretty dangerous run, if you take account of the suite of newly established signs around the lake.

Danger:
- variable water quality
- variable water depth
- submerged objects
- drowning hazards
- hidden obstacles
- steep drop offs
- steep descent
- slippery surfaces
- falling branches
- swimming not recommended
- no jumping
- no diving
- dogs on leads
- pick up after your dog
- children must be supervised.

(They forgot to mention duck droppings and stranger danger in the area).

I survived, but l'm not sure the fate of the children l saw walking to school - unsupervised!

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3] 5.9 km (11:01 / km)

Eppalock course 4. My legs didn't really have anything in them, my tights were too hot and my dry eyes bad (watery, although that sounds like a contradiction). Anyway, it was a gorgeous sunny day and an enjoyable course. Being rocky ground, I was very cautious as l didn't want to trip. Afterwards l went into Bendigo to have a bit of a look around.
I drove to the event and back from Benalla, where l spent yesterday pulling down a fence, ready for a new one this week.

Thursday May 3, 2018 #

Run 41:20 [3] 6.0 km (6:53 / km)

Run around Blackburn lake and creeklands. It was my favourite sort of morning - warm and slightly windy. A really pleasant run!

Tuesday May 1, 2018 #

8 AM

Run 24:25 [3] 3.52 km (6:56 / km)

Run around Blackburn lake and streets. It was very smoky and l didn't feel very comfortable breathing so cut it short.
9 AM

Stretching/exercises 20:00 [3]

I thought it was about time l started to do exercises. 10 full squats (body weight, which was enough), 40 sit ups, 10 push ups, a plank and 3x20 of various arm exercises with 1kg weights. Not much, but a start.
