Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 4.2 km (14:17 / km)
This day was starting to get longer than I had anticipated. The next event was a sprint with 31 controls in aruably one of the most interesting areas I have orienteered in.
I think I should have had something to eat or more to drink between races 2 and 3. As soon as I started to run I knew that my blood sugar levels were down and there was not a lot left in the brain department. This meant I got lazy and ran off without being totally sure where I was going. Fatal error no 2 for the day - got lost between controls 1 and 2 and then rapidly lost motivation. This was starting to feel like a rogaine. Everybody else was dashing about with the same enthusiasm as previously wheras I was floundering. And then I saw Louise. Women believe in "if you can't beat them, then join them" and we teamed up, rogaine style. My brain was completely absent and I was getting somewhat tired of being treated as a pin cushion by the prickles. I was starting to learn about Invis's course setting - pick the biggest, most prickly bush and put the control in there - although he claims that these bushes were the only ones with solid stems for locking the control.
Anyway, after 19 controls, Louise and I called it a day. My garmin had not reset for DS and I thought it was 4.30, and was a bit anxious about the drive home - wheras it was only 3.30 and there was heaps of time. So a DNF. Jools and Anne both finished and looked fresh as. I felt really tired - I'm not used to events of this length - but it was excellent practice for Perth.
Then for the big drive home (working in Benalla for a few days), dinner and sleep. Didn't move all night once in bed.....zzzzzzzzzzzz
