Orienteering 1:40:00 [3] 5.64 km (17:44 / km)

It was such a glorious sunny day and, because of my pain free run yesterday, became over optomistic about repeating the exercise today. Unfortunately it was completely the opposite. I had entered W45A but agreed to swap entries with Suzanne, who had entered W35A, because she felt ill. I am pleased to say that Suzanne managed to finish her course whereas I only got about 1/3 of the way around mine before giving up and ambling back along the Goldfields Trail, which ran through the middle of the map.

My course was a steep and complex, made worse by my poor navigation. Every leg seemed to be an obstacle race, with steep hills, continuous fallen timber and steep sided erosion gullies, which I slid down unceremoniously. A junior even yelled at me ' hang onto a tree' when I was sliding down one. The probelm was my knee, which while not technically injured, did not like the lateral movement and felt like it might become injured again if I continued on. I became a bit obsessed about protecting it, which also meant I was really, really slow. So I gave up at the furthest corner of the course. Bit of a shame really. I'm not sure how I am going to get ready for Tassie.

Note

At least I wasn't the only one who found it tough!

Run 1:02:00 [4] 8.85 km (7:00 / km)

I had to visit a horse at Cranbourne South at midday, so l was pleased that street-O was on a new map at Frankston, only a few kilometres away. It was a nice course and a gloriously sunny spring day. I plodded slowly but ran almost all the way, although l did walk up one hill towards the end. Knee didn't hurt, which was great. I then took the opportunity to visit my sister at Mornington.

Walk 55:30 [3] 6.04 km (9:11 / km)

After 2 big days at work (12 hours each, not counting travel), l finally got home in time to get some exercise. However l was too tired to run and walked instead. I could also tell that my knee wasn't going to be happy either.

On a positive note, my state bushfire plan has turned into a best seller. It has been sent to just about every public authority in the state and they are all ringing up asking for more (one person asked for 50 copies today). It's a shame l am not getting royalties! lt's on the fire services commissioner website (if anyone is silly enough to want to read it) .
