Run 41:00 [3] 5.5 km (7:27 / km)

Run around Benalla lake and parklands. Same as yesterday. The sun was out, l wore a short sleeve top and conditions were perfect. I did the best l could but, alas, no improvement - not even 1 second improvement :(

Run 41:00 [3] 5.5 km (7:27 / km)

Run around Benalla lake and environs - struggling, as usual. Crews were cleaning up the large fallen redgum in the former free camping area - luckily no campers there now! Lovely sunny day but very chilly.

Orienteering 1:25:00 [3] 7.0 km (12:09 / km)

Dead Bullock Gully. This was another nice new area combining spur gully and mining detail. I felt comfortable the whole way and nav was only a little bit off, with the main problem at 11. I decided to try and straight line it, but l don't think this was very successful. I think l might return to my old right handed compass as l seemed to waste time setting the bearing on the new one. As you can guess, l was really quite slow and a bit disappointed in my time. Regardless, a nice jog in the bush and good to see everyone.

Orienteering 1:50:59 [3] 6.68 km (16:37 / km)

White Hills No 4. Amazingly complex area right near the centre of Bendigo. It even had underground bits and some new varieties of prickle! Route choices were clear - stick to the open or get ripped apart.
I opted for course 2 and was going reasonably well when l missed a control and had to backtrack. Turns out l missed TWO controls and so would be an MP. I also misjudged the finish shute and ran up the hill.
Turns out that was not the finish at all! There was a whole other course on the other side of the map and l was only half way round - and running up the hill was in fact the correct route!. For the second half l only walked. Foot was a bit sore ( the rocks resembled those in the WRC). I found the navigation a bit easier at a walk and the second time around.
Shame this map was not saved up for something special. It reminded me of Rowdy Flat.

Run 45:30 [3] 6.0 km (7:35 / km)

Run around Blackburn Lake and creeklands. It's going to be a beautiful sunny day and there was a hint of daphne and jonquil in the air - perhaps there is hope after all. Time was slow but l didn't feel too bad. Not sure why it has taken me a week to recover from the trip (driving, camping and rogaining).
