Orienteering (Rogaining) 5:50:00 [3] 25.0 km (14:00 / km)
(sick)

Still feeling pretty unwell, with blocked sinus, sandpaper throat and a persistent cough. Antibiotics have helped a bit and are ongoing.
Anyway,I had entered the 6 hour rogaine at Korweinguboora with Ian and Ron, so thought I would give it a go. I pretty much dragged myself around the first half, was really slow on the hills (holding the guys up) and the coughing just wouldn't let up. The second half was a little better and I even managed to break in to a bit of a jog. A number of the controls were located on really vague features that made navigation hard enough in the daytime and made me glad I wasn't searching for them in the night. These included controls in the middle of broad open gullys and spurs. There were a number of creek crossings and boggy areas, but Ron and Ian seemed determined to keep their feet dry, so I joined them, climbing over logs. Not sure what our final placing was, but we won the mixed vet and mixed supervet categories and possibly got some other placings as well. So I was pleased with that, considering how unwell I felt and how slow I was. I think I might do some more rogaining in the future.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Feeling really ordinary today with a really stuffy head. Perhaps going orienteering on the weekend was not such a good idea.

Orienteering 58:00 [3] 5.54 km (10:28 / km)
(sick)

Woke feeling pretty ordinary but l was committed to a team in the Vic interclub relays so thought l had better go. They were held at Brimbank Park and the winds were very strong. There was a bit of kerfuffle in my club just prior to the start about teams, running order and stick numbers. I ended up running second following Judy. I really struggled due to a general feeling of malaise, a cough and the strong winds. I also thought Keith A was to be our anchorman, so wasn't in too much of hurry. Turned out our third runner was Chris, so l probably should have tried harder. It was nice to see everyone from the different clubs in what was a well run event.
