Note
(rest day)

Feel totally wiped out today, with the day focussed on how to recover from yesterday. Eat more? Drink more? More protein? More sleep? More coffee?
Although l felt good for most of yesterday, the proof of fitness is really in the recovery time, sadly.

Rogaining 5:50:00 [3] 25.0 km (14:00 / km)

Rogaining at Hepburn Springs with the very charming and very fit Ian Herbert. Ian said he just wanted to walk, but l knew l was in for trouble and should have worn O shoes (rather than light boots)when l had to run to catch up with him as we left the hash house (we were the second team out the gate), and that pretty much summed up the rest of the day. Fortunately he slowed down around half way and faded a bit on the hills and in the thick areas of blackberries along the creeks.
We were 1st in super vet mixed, and second in vet mixed. I'm not sure where we came overall, but an adventure race couple (she didn't carry a map) cleaned up the course in 5 hours. We would have done much better if l hadn't looked at the map, and possibly much much better if l also hadn't carried one, and just ran. Maybe next time, but l would have to completely trust my partner's navigation. Only one blister (little toe) today.
It was a beautiful sunny day. A section of the course was unusable due to a planned burn, which they lit around 3pm.
Ian gave me a light beer afterwards. Post rogaining is the only time l ever feel like (or drink) beer, but it tastes really nice when you are exhausted, which is odd as it normally tastes horrible.

Run 45:00 [3] 5.94 km (7:35 / km)

Street O in Blackburn, so l really had no excuse not to go. As it turned out, it was a lovely night, the course was ably set by the President, my legs were happy on familiar turf and local knowledge helped. Overall a good event.

Run 37:00 [3] 5.4 km (6:51 / km)

Run around Benalla lake and gardens. It was a beautiful sunny morning, but very windy and cold. Both my legs and my lungs didn't want to work, but surprisingly my knee was fine. I saw a fire truck converted into a campervan in the RV parking area.
