Explored the 'hoods near the Hilltop motel at Ouyen, including an inspection of local houses and reasonable attempts of the locals to make nice shady gardens with drought resistant plants. Up and down a few sand dunes. The biggest surprise was the Ouyen Lake, which was full (no doubt water piped from somewhere else) and the track around it made for pleasant running.
I am on my way to Mildura for a 'fish death' workshop on Monday. I decided to make a tour of it and went through Marlborough, St Arnaud, Birchip and lots of small towns. I didn't pass many cars on this route. Grain harvesting was in full swing and most dams contained water. There didn't seem much evidence of a drought here.
Kara Kara park looked nice and l'll have to come back one day for a closer inspection.
