Frank thought that we should use bikes to get the first three controls, all along roads, so he brought his bike along for day two and I got to borrow Sue Hawkes-Teeter's road bike for the day. That was a bit of a surprise--I thought Frank was going to bring his son's bike along. Alas, there was no time to make any adjustments to Sue's bike, so the seat was waayy too low. I wasn't able to generate much power on the flats and uphills, since the seat was too low for me; in fact, I had to get off and walk up one long hill. But it was fine on the downhills. :-)
At the end of yesterday's run, I told Frank to expect that I'd be walking the second day, but to my surprise, I wasn't as thrashed as I thought, so we did run some on the roads, although nothing with any incline.
Started to falter after six hours, and then any uphill, even walking, required some effort and labored breathing.
We blew one control near the end of the day, but other than that, we were pretty much spot-on all day.
We did 10 miles on the bike and 21 miles on foot. We took third place overall, so I'd say we were pleased with that.
