Geocaching 1:33:26 [3] 3.5 mi (26:42 / mi) +236ft 25:06 / mi

Colette and I went geocaching along the Old Mill Trail in Hinsdale. While not a very long trail, it is fairly nice are it parallels the Housatonic River as it drops down into Dalton. Alas, Route 8 also does the same, so there was a fair amount of car noise to endure.

Still, there are a lot of remains that speak to the usefulness of the Housatonic River in the late 1800s into the 1900s. Various mills were situated along the river and a aqueduct as well.

In the summer, the trail is probably a great route to the shallow pools of the Housatonic where one could cool off.

Dirt Road Running 56:06 [3] 5.5 mi (10:12 / mi) +276ft 9:44 / mi

On the way home from geocaching in Hinsdale, Colette dropped me off in Lenox so that I could run home along Roaring Brook Road and Woodland Road as it passes Woods Pond. The dirt road was in excellent shape, with only a few mud puddles to run around.

Road running 51:14 [3] 5.0 mi (10:15 / mi) +335ft 9:38 / mi

Got to run on the roads near Simon's Rock today. On the way over, I dropped Colette off on Route 7, so that she could grab a geocache, and then she ran toward SR, so I met her on Division Street.

Must say that running on canted roads really sucks--I haven't had to do that for years.

Road running 50:10 [3] 5.75 mi (8:43 / mi) +246ft 8:23 / mi

Drove to Woods Pond, thinking that the dirt road might be OK to run on, but it was too icy, so I headed out to Crystal Street and ran a lolllipop route instead.

Snowshoeing 2:50:47 [3] 3.97 mi (43:01 / mi) +1759ft 30:18 / mi

While Bruce Shenker usually invites me to climb Berlin Mountain with him on New Year's Day, if there's an early snowfall then I get an early invitation. So with 15" of new snow in the Berkshires, he asked if I wanted to head there again, and I did.

It was an overcast day, lots of grey, but not that cold and the wind was only a problem at the summit. Bruce skinned up while I plowed ahead, breaking the trail on snowshoes. The snow cover ranged from 8" to over 2' in the drifts. And when we got to the old ski slope, there was at least 8" everywhere and up to 2' in a lot of places.

Road running 45:00 [3] 4.25 mi (10:35 / mi) +118ft 10:19 / mi

Not exactly road running, but more like sidewalk running--at least they were plowed and clean.
