Hiking 2:32:09 [3] 8.4 mi (18:07 / mi) +1417ft 15:37 / mi

I'm toying with running the Monroe Dunbar Brook Trail Race on October 8th, so I thought I should go hike the course since it's been years since I did the race.

I downloaded the 'trail map' from the Grand Tree Series website, which is pretty rough since it doesn't really provide names for many of the trails and, once in the woods, it was clear that the trail marking was pretty pathetic as well. All that is prelude to the fact that I missed a turn somewhere near the 2.5-mile mark and ended up on Monroe Road, so I took that down to where the Spruce Mountain Trail comes out and the race route crosses to the north side of Dunbar Brook. Not that big a deal since I only missed two miles of the race distance.

The course is a toughie, but also quite beautiful, at least if one has the time to look around, as I did while hiking. Too dangerous to not keep you eyes on the trail while running though.

I plan to do the course in reverse so that I will know the route in its entirety. Then, after that, I hope to do a run the downhills and walk the uphills outing before the race as well.

Hiking 23:32 [3] 1.3 mi (18:06 / mi) +315ft 14:44 / mi

Back to Reservoir Road in Lenox to do a hike, followed by a run. The hike was to get up to the first ridge first and then the run followed.

Trail Running 1:14:17 [3] 5.4 mi (13:45 / mi) +702ft 12:15 / mi

Run up to Yokun Ridge and then back to the car; I did manage to run all the hills, one of my objectives for today's run--nothing too steep or too long, but at least I did run them.
