Walking 2:36:25 [3] 10.02 mi (15:37 / mi) +791ft 14:31 / mi

Colette and I drove to Tanglewood so that we could do a couple of loops on roads without too much traffic. We almost achieved that, but Route 183 was a bit busier than the other roads.

There were a ton of people out walking and running today; including a 5-km race that started as we got into the center of Lenox.

Trail Running 1:13:24 [3] 6.51 mi (11:16 / mi) +230ft 10:55 / mi

I thought that perhaps a nice, flat 10-mile run would be a nice thing to do on such a warm day--48°F, so I drove to the rail trail in Housatonic. Of course, I didn't really know what the trail would be like, so I brought some trail running shoes, along with my OROC 240s, with the studded cleats, just in case.

One look at the trail, with some packed ice, convinced me that the OROCs were a good choice. However, the footing was not great, and I could only plod along at 12-minutes per mile pace; the 10 mile goal faded quickly. I took a side trip up Pixley Hill Road, a nice hilly dirt road, so at least I did some hills.

Friday Jan 26 #

9 AM

Walking 32:44 [3] 2.01 mi (16:17 / mi) +139ft 15:17 / mi

Morning with Colette out to the black cows and back. Only 12°F, but no wind, so it wasn't too bad.

Walking 1:04:25 [3] 4.05 mi (15:54 / mi) +246ft 15:02 / mi

Afternoon walk out to Woods Pond and back; considerably warmer than the morning walk.

Thursday Jan 25 #

Road running 29:26 [3] 3.01 mi (9:47 / mi) +95ft 9:30 / mi

Thought perhaps I could try a shorter, but faster road run, just to see how it might feel. So I just ran down East Street, took a couple of rights and then left onto East Center Street before turning right on Greylock Street and back to home.

Any uphill saw me slowing down and breathing hard, and these were really small hills, so there's a long way to go to get back some fitness.

Wednesday Jan 24 #

2 PM

Road running 54:11 [3] 5.16 mi (10:30 / mi) +162ft 10:12 / mi

Out to Woods Pond, down Crystal Street and over to Bradley Street before heading home. Much colder, but the roads were much cleaner and drier, so the footing has improved greatly.

Road running 26:19 [3] 1.56 mi (16:52 / mi) +95ft 15:57 / mi

After-dinner walk with Colette out to Washington Mountain Brook and back.

Tuesday Jan 23 #

Walking 47:20 [3] 3.04 mi (15:34 / mi) +167ft 14:48 / mi

Morning walk with Colette down East Street and back. Roads were very wet from the heavy rains, too. We decided that this would be a good day t test all our rain gear.
