Note
Just returned from my trip with Colette to Germany and Austria.
Our first hike was along the Westweg in the Black Forest region of Germany. The Westweg is Germany's oldest trail and runs from Pforzheim to Basel, Switzerland. We hiked almost all of it, but skipped the section into Basel, opting instead to travel a day earlier than originally planned so that we could hike on the E5, or part of it, from Oberstdorf south into Austria and then perhaps into Italy.
We never made it to Italy, as we both were wiped out by a particularly difficult day of mainly downhill hiking with close to 6,000' of descent into Zams. So after only three days on the E5, we decided to go visit Innsbruck instead.
And that was a wise decision--we needed some time off and Innsbruck was beautiful and there were some nice trails to hike on as well.
Colette is staying for a couple more weeks to spend some time with her mother in Belgium.
