Walking 43:42 [3] 2.65 mi (16:29 / mi) +95ft 15:57 / mi

Walk with Colette at Woods Pond. The algae is just beginning to show up; it's always fun to watch how quickly it spreads over the pond.

Hiking 1:54:24 [3] 4.07 mi (28:06 / mi) +1305ft 21:34 / mi

Got an early start thanks to a drive to Sheffield that I had to do, so I drove down Route 41 a couple of miles and headed up Race Brook Trail. That's a fairly steep, rocky, rooted trail with a few water crossings, so it's a tough hike, especially when it's wet, which it was after last night's rain.

Only met some other hikers when I was on the return, about halfway down--there were four of them, all with poles, waterproof boots and backpacks. Once they got across the stream, they asked me to take some photos of them; fortunately for them, they had a great backdrop with a huge waterfall behind them!

Hiking 1:50:20 [3] 6.06 mi (18:12 / mi) +528ft 16:49 / mi

In Pittsfield for some car maintenance, so Colette and I went for a hike in the Boulders. But we also did a short out-and-back on the AT, too. The trails were pleasantly dry, with only an occassional wet or icy spot that could be avoided.

Walking 20:00 [3] 1.06 mi (18:52 / mi) +90ft 17:28 / mi

After-dinner walk with Colette on the condo grounds.

Hiking (mostly bushwhacking) 1:09:55 [3] 1.78 mi (39:16 / mi) +814ft 27:24 / mi

A little exploratory hike to see if I could find the Unkamit Trail at the top of Goldmine Brook Falls in the Chester-Blandford State Forest.

My starting point was where Goldmine Brook crosses Route 20 just east the Sanderson Brook Waterfall parking area.

The trail climbs steeply and takes you past multiple waterfalls; with the recent rain they were full and flowing strongly, making for an impressive viewing experience.

But my goal was to find a trail, which may or may not, be marked. Alas, I only found one tree with two blazes on it, but no other trees nearby. I did find another trail to the south that climbed up the big Goldmine Brook re-entrant, and I did find a north-south road at a higher elevation that might actually be the Unkamit Trail. I'll have to get the locals to take me along the trail before too long.

Since I was in Barrington for a doctor's visit and it was raining, the indoor track at Simon's Rock was beckoning, so I went there to do a couple of miles.
