Hiking 2:37:07 [3] 7.43 mi (21:09 / mi) +970ft 18:49 / mi

Hike on the bike trails to the north of New Lenox Road. After wandering around for a bit, I found that the bikers weren't able to find the trail that I wanted, so a little bushwhacking was in order, too.

Finally, I found myself getting a bit chilly, so I bushwhacked again off the bike trails in a direct line to my car.

Alas, as I was hiking, I noticed a lot of trees marked with blue paint which I presumed were being marked prior to some timber harvesting. And as I crossed a major dirt road, I spotted a sign explaining that the harvesting is good for the forest. May be true, but we can kiss those nice biking trails goodbye.

11 AM

Walking 40:00 [3] 2.6 mi (15:23 / mi)

Walk on the indoor track at Simon's Rock.

Gym Work (elliptical AMT) 8 [3] 0.0 mi

Colette persuaded me to try the new Precor AMT at the gym since it mimicks running better than most elliptical machines. It did seem a bit different and also harder than most machines that I've tried. It certainly got my heart rate up nicely.

Hiking (and bushwhacking/running) 1:54:43 [3] 5.77 mi (19:53 / mi) +900ft 17:19 / mi

Hike on the bike trails to the south of Reservoir Road. But I seem to be getting a little bored with the usual routes, so today I took a couple of exploratory bushwhacks from one trail to another, just to see what the terrain might be like. Much easier to pick a line through the woods when there's snow on the ground.

And I jogged about a half mile downhill to my car, as I needed to be home at a certain time; made it, too.

Anyone have any thoughts on what this might be? I thought at first that it was blood, but it was more orange colored than red, so I wonder if it might be urine instead. There were numerous tracks where this was found next to the trail I was on. And I was able to follow the orange marks for some distance into the woods, so I presume it was from an animal and not someone just dumping their Gatorade. :-)

Three loops on the condo grounds. Found that I was pretty tired from yesterday's hike, so no sense in pushing it.
