Hiking 2:10:21 [3] 6.51 mi (20:01 / mi) +768ft 18:01 / mi

Hike on the bike trails to the south of Reservoir Road. For a long weekend, there weren't that many people in the woods. Met one group of four and one biker.

Hiking 2:52:10 [3] 8.38 mi (20:33 / mi) +1015ft 18:26 / mi

Hike with Colette in Beartown State Forest. Our goal was to get to and find the Stimson Burial Ground not far from the Beartown Mountain Trail.

We did an out-and-back along the BMT and some bushwhacking to locate the burial ground. We were both rather surprised at how tall the headstones were and how well they have weathered the years. Anthony Stimson was laid to rest in 1802 and his wife, Mehittibel Stimson, in 1791. Of note is the exquisite engraving on the headstones, and the minor decorative elements at the tops of the headstones.

Hiking 1:51:31 [3] 6.12 mi (18:13 / mi) +719ft 16:24 / mi

Hike in Kennedy Park. Still tired from yesterday's hike, so I tried to take it easy.

Talked with my ophthamologist a bit about some concerns I had regarding cataract surgery. He is suggesting the surgery to take care of my issues; so my glaucoma will probably be eliminated if I choose to have iStents installed along with ECP, Endoscopic Cyclophotocoagulation. So I made an appointment with a surgeon to be evaluated for the cataract surgery.

Hiking 3:40:08 [3] 12.01 mi (18:20 / mi) +1857ft 15:59 / mi

Hike into Greylock from the start of Bauer's Road on the west side of the reservation. I parked there because the road to the Visitors Center was closed, presumably with a few trees lying across the route.

The good news was that I was wearing my new glasses, and while it took a while to get used to them, they certainly made the rocks and roots visible once again. Despite traversing some rocky/rooty trails, I only tripped once.

I was very surprised at how windy the west slope of Greylock could be; I was glad to have a thin nylon jacket on top of my IO Merino hoodie, plus gloves!

Walking 19:40 [3] 1.13 mi (17:24 / mi) +90ft 16:11 / mi

After-dinner walk on the condo grounds. Lots of blowdown after the late-afternoon wind storm.

Had too may tasks to do today, so I decided to keep the exercise to a minimum. Tomorrow I will get my new glasses and will head to Greylock for a longer hike.

Hiking 2:15:56 [3] 7.11 mi (19:07 / mi) +817ft 17:15 / mi

Hike on the bike trails to the south of Reservoir Road. The sore throat seemed to have disappeared, so I opted for a longish route.

The fall colors are getting nicer, with more red and orange tints appearing.

Didn't meet anyone on the trails.

Interesting observation: Today's loop was the counter-clockwise version of the 7-mile loop that I did on October 1. Amazingly, the times are identical to the second! The distances varied from 7.03 to 7.11, however.

Hiking 1:31:19 [3] 5.09 mi (17:56 / mi) +614ft 16:06 / mi

Hike in Kennedy Park. Cutting back on my daily time spent hiking in order to get past a sore throat that I've had for a few days. Not sure if I've just been doing too much, or if it's the pollen levels that are bothering me.
