Hiking 1:31:43 [3] 5.06 mi (18:08 / mi) +328ft 17:05 / mi

Hike in Kennedy Park on the snow-covered trails; I stuck mainly to those that were packed down fairly well. Saw quite a few X-country skiers today, but no bikers.

Snowshoeing (and hiking) 1:23:00 [3] 3.4 mi (24:25 / mi) +365ft 22:09 / mi

Snowshoeing with Colette in Kennedy Park. Alas, Colette developed some blisters after a couple of miles, but she found that walking in her boots was OK, so we switched to hiking instead of snowshoeing. But we cut short our planned distance and decided to do some road walking later in the day.

5 PM

Walking 1:05:35 [3] 3.64 mi (18:01 / mi) +1355ft 13:19 / mi

After-dinner walk with Colette out past the black cows and back. On our out leg, a police car went flying by and up the hill near the power station. When we got to the top of the hill, someone rolled down their car window and told us that there had been some shooting going on. We continued along Woodland Road for a bit, then turned aroung to go home.

Shortly thereafter, though, the police car came back and the cop stopped to ask if we had heard any shooting. No, we had not. He said that the shooting was down by Woods Pond. I said, well the guys like to go out at night and shoot their guns from time to time; he agreed and we continued on our ways.

Walking 1:40:53 [3] 6.06 mi (16:39 / mi) +440ft 15:35 / mi

Clockwise loop from the condo up Golden Hill Road out along Crystal Street before turning back towards home. Then up Willow Hill Road and right on Woodland Road and Bradley Street before heading up to the condo.

Roads are very clear, nice to walk on for a change.

Hiking (some walking on roads) 2:07:15 [3] 7.17 mi (17:45 / mi) +220ft 17:15 / mi

Started at the south end of Woods Pond, hoping that I could walk on Woodland Road for three miles before returning. Alas, the snow was too deep and chewed up by snowmobiles, so it was too much effort. Turned around and headed to the roads. Did a loop out to Willow Hill Road and into Lenoxdale and then north on Crystal Street.

As I got close to where I had parked, I decided to try a snowmobile trail up to the powerline to the west. That led to the work being done by the ultility company to upgrade their poles completely to metal, replacing the wooden one. Took that powerline north toward Eastover Resort for a while, then reversed direction and went past Lenox WTF to my car.

Snowshoeing 1:40:12 [3] 4.1 mi (24:26 / mi) +405ft 22:21 / mi

Snowshoeing with Colette in Kennedy Park starting from the Arcadian Shop. A nice, warmish day, 33°F, and not much wind.

Some of the trails had been hiked, some had been skied, and some had been snowshoed, so generally the going, while slow, wasn't too much work. Only a short section hadn't been traveled at all.

Hiking 2:29:29 [3] 7.05 mi (21:12 / mi) +690ft 19:24 / mi

Hike on the snowy bike trails to the south of Reservoir Road. Most of the trails were used by the fat-tire bikers yesterday, but there was another inch or two of new snow to contend with. And one section had seen no bike traffic so it was very slow going for that mile or so. Met one other hiker today.
