Hiking 2:18:58 [3] 8.52 mi (16:19 / mi) +1007ft 14:40 / mi

Out-and-back hike on Jerusalem Road. As a dirt road, it's now showing the usual early spring softening, so the highway department has been spreading gravel over the really soft section. Fortunately, since I'm on foot, I was able to avoid a lot of, but not all, the muddy sections.

Saw a couple of bikers, but no one else.

Hiking 2:03:08 [3] 6.02 mi (20:27 / mi) +675ft 18:29 / mi

Hike with Colette on the bike trails to the south of Rservoir Road. The trails were icy in spots, firm for about 85% of the trails and soft for the remainder.

Met three mountain bikers, who came up behind us and passed, only for us to catch them at the top of a good, steep climb. They must have taken a break since we didn't see them again until we had hiked another mile and a half.

Walking 2:11:37 [3] 8.06 mi (16:20 / mi) +810ft 14:55 / mi

Parked at the junction of Goose Pond Road and George Canon Road. First I did a 2.5-mile out-and-back on George Canon, followed by a 5.5-mile out-and-back on Goose Pond.

Rather soft surface for both roads, more so for George Canon, so the going was a bit slow. Also rather windy, so I was glad to find a thin jacket in my trunk before I took off on the walk.

Walking 2:00:15 [3] 7.26 mi (16:34 / mi) +539ft 15:29 / mi

Walk with Colette from the condo. We did what we call the "Delafield loop" since it starts by climbing Golden Hill Road, then up Walker Street, right on East Street, and finally down Delafield Road to Crystal Street. We then did a short out-and-back to Lenox WTF before heading past Woods Pond and back to the condo.

Beautiful 60°F temperature so we were in shorts!

Hiking 1:37:18 [3] 5.01 mi (19:25 / mi) +520ft 17:41 / mi

Hike on the bike trails to the south of Reservoir Road. I was hoping to snowshoe on The Finger trail, but while it had been snowshoed before, it was too uneven and soft to make much progress, so I opted for the tried and true bike trails that were well packed insted.

Walking 32:08 [3] 2.01 mi (15:59 / mi) +135ft 15:02 / mi

After-dinner walk out to the black cows and back.

Hiking 3:51:00 [3] 11.01 mi (20:59 / mi) +2300ft 17:31 / mi

Hike on Mt. Greylock starting from the Hopper. Plan was to go up Money Brook, then to the AT and down to the Hopper Trail off of Sperry Road.

Alas, the Money Brook was a killer--the snow was too soft, so I was constantly either falling off the trail, or just sinking in way too much. By the time I finished Money Brook, the thought of more climb up to the AT was too much, so I hiked along the snowmobiled road instead.

Finally I was able to get on the Hopper Trail that brought me to Sperry Road and then I could continue downhill on the Hopper and back to my car.

Monday Mar 8 #

Hiking 1:31:44 [3] 4.93 mi (18:36 / mi) +520ft 16:55 / mi

Hike on the bike trails to the south of Reservoir Road. Despite the rising temperature, the trails were still firm and pleasant to hike along.
