Hiking 1:11:46 [3] 3.6 mi (19:56 / mi) +630ft 17:06 / mi

Hike with Colette in Mt. Tom State Reservation. We parked near Lake Bray and hiked up the DOC trail and then over to the museum and onto the Beau Bridges and Teabag trails before taking the road back to the parking lot.

We had gone to the Apple Store in the Holyoke Mall to get some new phones, so that's why Mt. Tom seemed like a good place to take a hike.

Walking (paved & dirt roads) 2:48:11 [3] 10.1 mi (16:39 / mi) +1283ft 14:52 / mi

Parked at BNRC's lot for The Cobbles hiking trails, but I was out to do a long road walk. Dropped down to Main Street in Tyringham and then went south to Monterey Road. Followed that uphill to Art School Road and climbed that to the Bidwell House Museum where I reversed course.

Once I dropped back into Tyringham, I took McCarty Road and then a right on Jerusalem Road and back to the Cobbles parking lot.

Hiking 2:07:59 [3] 7.52 mi (17:01 / mi) +520ft 15:58 / mi

Hike with Colette on the Housatonic Rail Trail and Pixley Hill Road. The trail was a bit soft and muddy in spots, but passable without too much difficulty. Met a variety of people out hiking, biking and running--everyone wants to get out and do something.

Hiking 2:18:38 [3] 7.31 mi (18:58 / mi) +838ft 17:06 / mi

Hike on the bike trails to the south of Reservoir Road. After yesterday's rain, the trails were often just a ribbon of ice where the bikers and hikers had compressed the snow. So it was tough going as I was either very careful on the ice, or spent more time walking just slightly off the trail.

Didn't see anyone else on the trails; they were the smart ones. ;-)

Walking 1:22:52 [3] 5.04 mi (16:27 / mi) +130ft 16:03 / mi

Walk out to the black cows, then up Washington Mountain Road, and finally an out-and-back on East Street before heading to the condo. Rained the entire time.

Hiking 2:09:09 [3] 7.37 mi (17:31 / mi) +962ft 15:36 / mi

Hike from the parking lot just off Crystal Street in Lenox, where there is a footbridge that crosses the Housatonic River, and the dirt road continues around the south end of Woods Pond and then heads north on Woodland Road and Roaring Brook Road.

I opted to climb up Schermerhorn Road and then took a left past Felton Lake. From there I took the Schemerhorn Trail downhill, heading west, until I hit Roaring Brook Road. From there I continued north and then reversed and took the roads back to the parking lot.

Still some ice and snow on Schermerhorn Road, but could get through those fairly short sections.

As I was heading back to my car along Roaring Brook Road, I heard something running behind me to my left--surprise, it was a deer and it was heading straight toward me. WTF? Fortunately, it spotted me and veered away and climbed up the hillside. About 7 minutes later, what do I see running downhill toward the road? Yup, the deer which was now well in front of me and heading to Woods Pond. Alas, I couldn't see where it went later.

Hiking 2:33:39 [3] 8.16 mi (18:50 / mi) +1008ft 16:51 / mi

Hike on the Beartown Mountain Trail and the Wildcat Trail, one big loop.

Some of the BMT trail was kind of gnarly--frozen but very uneven, but the Wildcat on the way back was much smoother since it had been snowmobiled.
