Some of the guys went to the slopes again in Yllasjarvi while myself, Riina and Taija went to do some more cross country. The plan was to Ski to Kesangin Keidas for pancakes......this is my kind of sport!!

We started off from the cabin, then out across Akaslompolo, pretty cool skiing on a frozen lake....if a bit worrying. Then along the trails to the cabin with me going freestyle and the girls doing traditional skiing.

Time to go 'splorin

if only we had someone with a good sense of direction........

Which way..... photo WP_20160102_003_zpszavrodqs.jpg

Loads of people out today and some many young kids flying past me!!

mid training pancake......but i think the real issue is who puts coke in a pepsi cup?!

After some refueling we decided that 12-13km on the out and back wouldnt be enough so we picked some add ons to our loop.

Imagine skiing along endless deserted trails

After a nice refueling juice box we started out again.....uphill, which i find tricky on ski's. Worth it though for a nice downhill towards Akaslompolo again even if i did stack it a few times.

ahr:157 max:173

We drove to the other side of Akaslompolo to head to the trails and ski towards a cabin. 6 of us went today.

After yesterdays short practice we decided to give it a real go today. Good fun once you get a rhythm. More enjoyable than traditional and was able to do the no pole skate in parts too which was fun.

Back from the cabin in the woods after a munkki. Myself and Roope went ahead and took car #1 back to the house and the girls followed behind.

There is something nice about skiing through the forests up here with a headtorch on to see your way.

when are the Irish XC Ski Champs for 2016 I wonder, now that I've done 2 days on the snow I feel pretty qualified

ahr:125 max:154

Myself and Riina were going to go out on the trails but was too slippy for our wax (I sound like I know what I'm talking about.......I haven't a glimmer!) so she gave me a freestyle ski lesson instead. Was picking it up towards the end, feels a bit un-natural.

Went to see poroja after skiing!!

Running (Snow) 48:28 intensity: (24 @1) + (8:06 @2) + (38:49 @3) + (1:09 @4) 8.52 km (5:41 / km) +45m 5:33 / km

Headtorch on and out from Akaslompolo, a way we hadn't gone yet. Loop around Murtokangas and then back, judged it just right to get in 5miles.

Skiing Downhill 5:00:00 [3] 15.0 km (20:00 / km)

Forgot my garmin this morning after going to the trouble of plugging it in so distance is a guess. Dunno if it counts as mileage since it was just sliding!

I'm not a natural on the slopes, lots of falls but completed green, blue and red level slopes under lights and in the snow. #

I looked like I knew what I was doing......until I started actually doing

shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280 Ice-Tec

Warm up with Dooby and Robrunner with my jingle bells jangling on the move!

Orienteering ◪ race 30:05 [5] *** 5.63 km (5:21 / km) +27m 5:13 / km
spiked:27/30c shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280 Ice-Tec

Fun event around Fota. Same start route as Dooby but we split in the grass area before the gardens where he cleared it way better. No sign of Swedesport from the get go. Got stuck a couple of times in unmapped green and deep water too. 201 didn't work and 2 control sets I think were in the wrong order, not that it really matters in a score.

Fota Results

Down to the forest part to collect kites with Dooby and Swedesport

Orienteering ◪ warm up/down 7:46 [2] 1.19 km (6:30 / km) +2m 6:27 / km
spiked:4/4c shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280 Ice-Tec

Then we picked up another few controls in the grassland area
