Run (River road loop+) 1:07:00 [3] 6.0 mi (11:10 / mi)
shoes: Asics2

River road loop, then a 1/2 mile jaunt into the State Park, ran across the open fields which were lumpy as always but vegetation was flattened so it was (for once) runnable and good practice. Uphill too. Lots of uphills today, no walking. Slow.
Alice got her first jump in the river of the year, too.
Times are all going to be estimates for a while, I have no desire to watch the watch while I'm just glad to be making progress with building back up.

Orienteer (Control setting) 1:00:00 [3] 3.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics2

Warm, sunny day... despite the thunderstorm forecast.
More fumbling around than moving around setting the controls, ran across a couple of swamp areas to check them out. (Okay, and cause I made a mistake and had to run back and switch control numbers).

Orienteer race 1:26:00 [3] 5.8 km (14:50 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit-L olx

Route
Some fairly big silly stuff going on at
1 (for being 1)
4 Dark green was indeed unrunnable but that short unrunnable scrappy stuff so I thought it was the open/green slash further north
5 Just ran for the big hill and should have been more specific since it was such a long big hill. Ended up doing a big circle, and taking the penalty hit and just hiking up to the top of the hill for another go at it.
Not pleased with these errors, but they actually felt worse than shown on the track.
Rest was good.

Orienteer race 1:25:00 [3] 5.8 km (14:39 / km)
shoes: Icebug Spirit-L olx

This one was much cleaner. But much slower .... I had no energy left AT ALL, and walked most of the second half.
Yes, some lack of conditioning but it also occurred to me that my low carb diet all week (but French toast with Afton Maple syrup this morning) might have had an impact. Almost couldn't move at some points even some downhill sections. Lightheaded, pukey and headache coming on. Certainly snow and many hills didn't help Glad I brought some Gu. It helped.
Now: Get in shape and nutrite properly before events.

I stayed clean because I was
a) more careful
b) getting used to the map, terrain, the scale
c) going slower
d) terrified of having to travel any extra distance
e) course was a bit easier

Although I saw mcarl, iriharding when they passed me..... I resisted following, the navigation just felt clear to see and good so that part I like a lot, especially after my misses on Course 1.

It was a very fun course - Kevin's new map (Course1) was perfect for vegetation and all else, courses were well set up for good orienteering and at least one breath-taking view. Terrain was nice and easy to run through (okay, except for the snow, but that's everywhere). I liked the option of regular courses vs. Rogaine.
And thanks Jim M for letting us all ride in your van. Perfect.

The Season of the Mud.

Note

NOTICE: I am officially competing in the "brightest headlamp" category.
I have three 600 lumen LED components, just need to figure out how to wire them up, power them up, cool them down... etc.

But at my weekly LED geek mtg at work, I asked if anyone would help me to create an 1800 lumen headlamp, and I got a taker! AND.. someone said, "You should use that new 5000 lumen LED that we've seen" ... but on further questioning they thought I might need to use a car battery to power it.

Took a little effort to get up that looong hill.
Kept myself at a reasonable pace on the way back down.
