running (trails) 1:20:00 [3] 8.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

With shadow maybe 60/20/20 trail/off trail/paved path.

swim 27:00 [2]

Saturday Feb 26, 2005 #

hiking 1:30:00 [1]

Carrying miles and a pack with some light weights. Attempt to get some leg strength benfit out of a long walk in the woods with my sister and the dog.

running (treadmill) 50:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Went over to the gym thinking swim but it's open house day and the pools are too crowded.

bike (stationary) 30:00 [3]

running (treadmill) 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

another insane 15 hour workday with a short late night work gym session. Finally a little bit of return to the legs with 150hr at 6:49..

Note

work schedule isn't going to allow me to shoot for the podium at the Bethesda Biathlon so I'm out

running 45:00 [2] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Just trying to keep the calories under control. Last year's awesome winter and spring mileage seems a mirage.

rest 1 [1]
(rest day)

No time 16 hrs at work. Another cross continent trip shaping up for next week.

Monday Feb 21, 2005 #

swim 26:00 [2]

running 10:00 [1] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Maybe one mile. My right hamstring which is normally more cooperative has formed an unholy union with the left to protest something, what i'm not sure as the miles have been easy and limited of late. Regardless there is clearly an implied threat from both sides even at warm-up paces. I'll tempt sickness but not the hamstring pull so I abort this and it's over to the gym for swim, sauna, light stretching and the stationary bike.

bike (stationary) 40:00 [2]

hiking 1:00:00 [1]

Walking through the muddy woods with Miles in the bjorn throwing the ball for sahdow. This wasn't high effort so although it preceded teh run attempt it doesn't seem like a cause for the hamstring concern. Carrying the extra weight uphill qualifies this as light training thaough so who knows.

running (treadmill) 1:09:00 [2] 8.0 mi (8:37 / mi)

late night. the horror of the last two weeks hits home with a profound drop in economy to 150=7:08. Maybe I'm still spent from Sunday. Maybe I need to cut back on the chocalate croissants and m&ms.

bike (stationary) 15:00 [2]

Feeling the hills from Sunday

Sunday Feb 13, 2005 #

running (orienteering) 1:40:00 [4] 8.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

First outing in a while. Guilt over inadequate levels of volunteer support had me out doing beginner instruction for 1.5 hours prioir to event. Aforementioned points taken together cause me to drop back to red. Despite running with the dog and the hills kicking my ass I manage a mid-pack finish with only one huge error. Stopped along the way a couple of times to check on the begining groups I had instructed. Great weatehr day for a meet again.

One high note is that Shadow and I again win the common red/blue finish leg split, proving that we are quite fast broken terrain sprinters when we know where we are going.

rest 1 [3]
(sick)

Sloth-like I am ill and overworked but well-fed.

Monday Feb 7, 2005 #

Note

Just in case anyone (including me at some point in the future) is wondering what the hell happened. I have been alternately sick and crushed with work. I have missed no training entries. There has been no training. My pact with self is that until I can get the work and illness under control it isn't fair to take the training time at Kristin and MIles's expense. Plus when the fever hit 102 I didn't feel much like training. Maybe tomorrow will mark my return. Maybe I just need to accept that it is the fat, old, and slow time of my life now.

In an effort to build some better Karma I volunteered to halp at our next meet.

Note

The Soup Bowl

A buddy of mine engineered this event a 10+ years back with the thought that if he designed a course to his liking he would have a better chance of winning. He didn't ever take the victory but many years later the event survives. I have yet to participate. Good excuse for a trip to NC.

Note 1/10 this is looking doubtful based on travel schedule for work.

1/17 ever more doubtful unless there is a freakish warm spell

2/5 Sick. Not happening again this year.

Tuesday Feb 1, 2005 #

Note

One year of AP. Humorous and arbitrary goal for self is to make it over the 500 hour number.

2/7 didn't happen due to illness best shot at this one agian is fall.
