Was going to be a typical weekend afternoon MTB route on the epic. Dialed way back due to being sore from late PM soccer maybe 35% less distance covered in first 30 vs last weeks speedfest. Only took it up briefly in the flow section at 1:10 which when combined with slightly impaired handling from fatigue proved to be catastrophic. At maybe 20mph on a downhill missed a landing area off a jump. Came down long, left, and over-rotated. Besides the fatigue a recently altered lip certainly contributed. Maybe 12 feet of carry and three feet of drop from the lip to where the front wheel touched down plus whatever vertical off the lip. Bookending last weeks best ride in years we now have the worst wipeout in as many.
Instant cantilever launch endo, 180 plus aerial rotation to body on ground impact, full on bounce, tumble roll, slide, etc covering quite some distance into the woods. Minus the multiple blunt impacts with the ground the sensation was more akin to getting worked when surfing bigger waves than my typical mtb wipeouts which seem usually to be washing laterally at speed.
After coming to rest start with inspecting helmet and checking for any obvious fractures to figure our if I need to be thinking ambulance. Nothing horrific but it was all I could do to get onto some asphalt covered direct route home.
At home cuts and abrasions inventory shows bloodied nose, forehead, back, shoulder, left elbow, left upper leg, butt. Try to get cleaned up and take in some food. From there mostly lying down. Late pm has everything tightening and getting sore. Excruciating left lower back if core muscles tensioned certain ways when rolling over. Wife suggests trip to hospital for back xray/mri but after probing it appears more soft tissue damage than spinal.
