hiking 1:45:00 [1]

Great Falls MD. A million cars but we don't see many people as we mostly hike through the woods. Miles plus more in the pack. WOuls have spent more time as was 60s but getting dark.

rest 1 [1]
rhr:50 (rest day)

One small rest from training. One night of the most food I have ever prepped in non-commercial settings. A resounding success though.

Thursday Dec 30, 2004 #

running 1:11:00 [2] 9.0 mi (7:53 / mi)

Though about an MTB today but spend the day on party prep instead. For some reason I got it in my head that I wanted to make, not buy, the duck confit. Fairly large undertaking. Also make good progress on chopping and grinding rubs for roasts, grilling veggies, and reconstituting dried fruits in wine for chutney. Given these tasks the easier logistics of a run are much more appealing. Similar pacing to yesterday for a lot of the way but perceived effort and HR much less. After laying off the wine and heavy eating for a few back to 167 this a.m. Doubt that'll last the weekend.

Note

Make a conscious decision to cut back on the weight room for a while. Still get some strength work on the home front. Off today I also did yardwork a fair amount of ball throwing and carrying Miles.

bike (commuting) 55:00 [1]

Leisurely spin in.

running 45:00 [3] 6.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

bike (commuting) 52:00 [2]

drive in ride home hoping it would be warmer. a day too early.

running (mixed surface) 1:18:00 [2] 9.0 mi (8:40 / mi)

LAte night mostly trail with shadow. High 20s I think. Blow through both batteries in less than an hour.Stumble a bit on the frozen ground. Move to paths.

Monday Dec 27, 2004 #

running 26:00 [2] 3.0 mi (8:40 / mi)

warm-up cool down

running (treadmill) 41:00 [3] 6.0 mi (6:50 / mi)

the balance of the time
Today's economy ratings at 30 min 150=6:18 157=6:00 each one notch better than 12/16.

Sunday Dec 26, 2004 #

running (treadmill) 40:00 [1] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm-up cool down and some plodding

running 5:00 [5] 1.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

Because Craig Stadler, John, and Paul all had so much fun I too contemplate life as the walrus every winter. goo goo g’joob. Crack the wrong side of 170. Fat & Happy.

Had read an article on an easy MHR test. 800 fast short rest 800 flat out. Thought to check where mine is. With mostly biking over the last few years I had gotten to the point where my running legs would quit long before the cardio system. After warm-up try this test but run out of treadmill speed at 5:00 in the flat-out repeat with HR up to only mid-170s. Pretty sure this is too low as I saw 190+ on the monitor in an MTB steep finish climb two years ago. Taking this outside in winter or messing with the incline function mid interval seem like a good ways to blow a hamstring. I can live without the info til it warms up.
