Orienteering 1:17:33 [4] 6.7 km (11:34 / km)
shoes: Inov8-MudrockIII

I found out pretty early that I was more tired from the night before than I thought. I navigated quite cleanly, but regret a few route choices. I went way too far left from 7 to 8, and took the long trail option from 8 to 9. Both of those decisions cost me some time, I'm sure (although I might have floundered on 9 without a clear attackpoint). I lost a lot of time on #20, stupidly going through the 3rd green to the north of the control. This is the third year in a row that I have made a really dumb error on one of the last few controls on this course.

I really like the sprint/middle feel at the end of a longer course. Although I often fall victim to stupid mistakes, it's a great chance to reward good navigation and people who can keep their wits in oxygen debt.

Orienteering 1:10:51 [3] 7.0 km (10:07 / km)
shoes: MudRock IV

Very fun night-O score course at Rentschler. My biggest mistake was early, from 1 to 6, where I spent way too long looking for the trail. In retrospect, if I had planned it better, I might have done 1 before 2 (I started 4-3-2-1) and use 2 as an easy attackpoint for 6. But of course I would have had no idea in the planning stage that I would have that much trouble finding the trail to 6.

I took a very stupid route from 15 to 18, and wasted a bunch of time attacking 16 from the east (I didn't see the north-south stream on the map until I was several meters up it.) Otherwise a fairly clean run.

Checking control sites at MUNA. There are a couple of very nice potentially technical areas here, but unfortunately I'll only be able to use them sparingly for the January TROL meet. The map is several years old, and the vegetation changes have been extensive enough that it wouldn't be fair to set too many controls there. I don't have the time or the ability to update the map too accurately, either; and if I did, it would be out-dated in a year. Hrmph.
