Orienteering race 1:18:24 [3] 6.1 km (12:51 / km) +280m 10:27 / km
shoes: MudClaw I

Red course at MVOC's Germantown (East) meet, set by kingofpain. Made a few biggish mistakes, and was generally pretty slow. But given those problems, I'm not too disappointed with my performanced.

I started way too far left coming out of #4, and so misjudged my progress to #5. Luckily, after a bit of wandering, I came across the huge boulder (#45), and even though it wasn't on our course, it was pretty easy to use it to relocate. Botched my route choice to #8, not realizing that it was a super-long leg that went through the circle for #16, so I spent the first third of that leg navigating to #16 instead of #8, putting me in thicker green than I needed to be. Even then, I probably could have made better use of trails to get me to #8. I didn't see the trail option east of #10 which would have made much faster work of #11. Finally, I probably could have saved a little time attacking #14 from the north trail instead of slogging through the crap south of it. On the plus side, I figure that I saved exactly 1 minute and 7 seconds by looking at my map beforehand! :-)

A fun course, a nice day to be out, and another reminder that I need to work my way into better running shape.
