NSF's Sleepy Hollow rogaine, solo 6 hr. A pretty solid race that far exceeded my low expectations. After my last two ventures on a USGS-type map (Get Stoked rogaine and USARA nationals) I had come to the opinion that the brute climbs involved in these sorts of events really kill most of their fun for me. But the climbs at Sleepy Hollow seemed much more manageable, partly because of the course-setting, partly because of my route planning to avoid climb, and partly because of the smaller contour interval (20 ft.) than my previous outings (30 or 40 ft.). I think it's the first time that I have ever finished my planned route with enough time to pick up an extra control. Even after the extra control, I finished with 30 minutes to spare -- perhaps enough time to snag one more 30 pointer; but it didn't seem worth the risk. Navigation was very solid, and I was able to jog most of the roads and trails. Great weather, and great to catch-up with a bunch of awesome Midwestern rogainers. All in all, a very successful race, and a restorative experience with respect to my attitude towards rogaines.
