Trail Running 18:00:00 [3]
shoes: CLFP

Strange day. No problems for the first 42 K, but then a wave of fatigue just hit me and I lost the willpower to keep running. No cramps, no soreness, just couldn't get my body to run. A bit spooky to be honest. I think I hit the 42 K mark somewhere around 4:17-4:26, so I certainly wasn't pushing the pace too much. When the wheels fell off, I decided just to hike back to the 50 mile turnaround and call it a day. Just before getting there, saw a friend who was trying to hit a time goal, so started running with her to help push her along. As I was finally running again, I decided to keep going after I hit the turnaround. About 6 K later, on the Normac Trail, I had a standoff with a bear who didn't want to back off and was growling at me. By the time he left and I could get going again, I was back to the powerhiking. Went 75 miles, and just didn't want to hike anymore. I had over 12 hours left to finish the final 25 miles, but I just didn't want to do it.

I had no nutrition problems (ate a gel every 20 mins plus snacked at aid stations) and stayed on top of hydration (1-2 S-Caps every hour). I also had no feet issues, despite the soul-sucking mud.

Not sure what happened to me, but my head and body just weren't into this race. I'm not angry or disappointed or filled with any regret about quitting. Just a bit confused about the whole thing. Very strange day for me.

Road Running 45:00 [3]

So, is it a bad sign when four days before a race, you discover that your race shoes have ripped more than you thought and you can now stick your fingers (and pinky toes) through the holes on the sides?

This has been the best race countdown ever.
