Vetting Day 7 of the Gigathlon (Bulle - Schwarzenburg). Nice route with a highlite over the ridge of a moutain with beautiful views. Much better weather than last time... it's unbelievable: End of October and almost 20°C!
When I arrived in Schwarzenburg, I just missed the train by 5', so I continued to Berne (+20Km). Most of it slightly downhill - it took me only 7' longer than it would have taken me by train.

From Wirzweli to Egg and back. On the downhill I took a fall at high speed on slippery grass. Luckily nothing serious happend, probably a bruised rib.

A very nice ride with Irene. From Engelberg we took the gondola to Trüebsee, unfrotunately the chairlift up to the Jochpass was closed, so we had to hike a bike 400 very steep altimeter. From the Jochpass down to Engstligenalp and continuing to Melchsee Frutt. Biking down the Melchtal to St.Nicklaus and from there up (+600 m) via Aecherli to Wirzweli. Gorgeous fall day and still pretty warm.

Wednesday Oct 18

Bike 3:45:00 [3] 50 km (4:30 / km) +1635m 3:52 / km
ahr:134 shoes: Scott MC 20
Vetting back-up route of day 5. From Fiesch starting the same as yesterday but afterwards switching the side of the valley and going up towards Bettmeralp/Riederalp. At the top of the route (which isn't that high since it's back-up course in case of bad weather/snow) I couldn't resist and took a gondola up. Enjoyed the amazing view of the Aletsch Area, took a deep breath and jumped into an the downhill track... Afterwards I understood why the guy at the gondola was asking me if I really just want to take one single ride... But I had to continue on the Gigathlon route wich gave me another nice downhill ride.

Tuesday Oct 17

Bike 4:11:00 [3] 50 km (5:01 / km) +1610m 4:19 / km
ahr:147 shoes: Scott MC 20
Vetting Day 5 of the Gigathlon. Very nice leg from Fiesch over the Saflischpass to Brig. First part up on good trails then a very nice stretch over the pass and an amazing downhill at the end (-1600m in one stretch). It was a beautiful fall day in the alps!

National race Trin. HE 46/48
WOC 2003 middle terrain. I was looking forward to this event the whole year (haven't been able to run in the terrain after the WOC). One big boom (2-3') plus many many medium ones. Most of them not in the really tricky area but on the route. I'm a bit disapointed by the result but it was a very nice to run there anyway!

Saturday Oct 14

Vetting the 'original' route of the surprise day. This route goes above 2500m and I had a beautiful day in the alps. Very nice biking (some very tricky downhills where I had to push the bike) even had to bike on snow towards the end (leftover from yesterday).
C • NICE 2
Bike 25:00 [1] 20 km (1:15 / km)
Nice downhill ride (-900m on road) after the bike.

Saturday Oct 7

Bike 5:30:00 [3] 50 km (6:36 / km) +1800m 5:36 / km

Vetting the alternative route of the surprise day of the Gigathlon with Corsin. Since it's the surprise day I'm not allowed to tell where I was except for somewhere close to Chur... Anyway it was a fun ride. Part of it on very nice and tricky singletrails which we had to abandon for the route because they were too dangerous and problems with traffic (where to cross a road). After Corsin caught a train back, I had a 600m climb to the finish in which I completely blew up.

We bailed out today. Irene was sick this week and I needed some good sleep. Since the weather wasn't very nice either we skipped the national race. Instead we went for an easy short run in the rain.
