ahr:149 max:158 weight:86.2kg shoes: Gel 1000s Black Jul 2019

Great Scottish Run half marathon. 950th-ish. Although a minute a mile slower than both previous runs here, and I really ought to be quicker, it was at least reassuring to be able to run OKish. Set off with the 95 minutes pacer and followed along until 8 miles, but was getting very tired, slowed down before it went too wrong, went to the loo quickly, felt quite a lot better and kept moving. Good fun all in all. Would be a lot easier if 10kg lighter.

Martin's intervals. Why I ever stop going to this remains unclear. Still feeling better for my week off I ran OK, 3'59 (155/94), 3'51 (159/98), 3'53 (159/101), 3'45 (167). Chuffed to actually get my HR up properly, although I ought to go faster at that effort.

Running long 56:12 [2] 10.75 km (5:14 / km) +133m 4:55 / km
shoes: Gel 1000s Black Jul 2019

GTR Blackness to Ferry Brewery at Dalmeny with Will, Brioney, ClaireW and AlexL + Brodie the dog who was well trained at not tripping runners up. Fun running point to point as always with the GTR. Quite hard work but knee held up so all good.

Running 51 [1] 9.19 km (6 / km) +79m 5 / km
shoes: Gel 1000s Black Jul 2019

So after some beer drinking it started to seem that the best idea for what to do next was the next leg through Dalment Estate to Cramond Brig. Large group with Doug,Bex,JohnMcK,Wade,Graeme,Sarah. Was getting very hard work by the end. Good long run in two parts.

Running 1:10:44 [1] 12.85 km (5:30 / km) +215m 5:05 / km
shoes: Gel 1000s Black Jul 2019

Great Trotter Relay leg 1, work > DVC > Campervan brewery. After a week of resting I did indeed feel an awful lot better. Legs had not entirely stopped aching but felt good, which was good. Only problem was that the runner's knee in my left knee kicked in. The lots of short runs approach doesn't seem to help me run well but does seek to keep injuries at bay.

Running warm up/down 40:00 [1] 6.5 km (6:09 / km)
shoes: Gel 1000s Black Jul 2019

Running race 21:47 [5] 5.0 km (4:21 / km)
ahr:139 max:151 shoes: Gel 1000s Black Jul 2019

Meadows 5k. Still hyper-knackered and not really able to run properly. HR only got to 150 in the finishing straight. Chatting to TomM warming down he apparently takes a week off every 6 weeks or so. Inspired by this I will now try to take a bit of time off until my legs stop aching constantly. I remember reading about an ultra runner who did their weeks hard/easy/hard/very easy, maybe something like that would be good for me. I seem to repetitively exhaust myself on not a lot of training.

Note

Went to Improve My Running on Charlotte Square for biomechanical/gait analysis. His analysis briefly...

Left leg - appears to be moving fine laterally but overstriding - which gets worse at higher speed. Rely on left leg more than right for movement, especially at higher speed.

Right leg - fairly conspicuously going off to the side and round rather than straight forwards.

Hips - stay level when left leg landing but drop when right leg landing.

Upper body - shoulders drooped a bit but particularly over rotating arms from high up back.

Quite a lot of movement issues when right leg leading.

Doesn't matter how strong or otherwise glutes are, they are being underutilised.

Did an exercise on the treadmill with emphasised cycling of the legs - brings the right leg onto correct track but only do for short periods of time.

Although reassuringly I did seem to at least look like a runner, albeit not a very fast one.

Might well go back for the 6 week program, I expect there is a lot which could usefully be done.

Running 22:55 [2] 4.3 km (5:20 / km)

ahr:125 max:136 shoes: Gel 1000s Black Jul 2019

An hour up canal and back. Legs still tired and weak from last Sunday so just kept it to one hour, which was about right. HR starting at 120, drifting up to 130.
