JOK Chasing Sprint prologue, Arthur's Seat, cold sunny day. Still have a cold and didn't think it was a good idea to do much but couldn't face sitting around all day and decided to go for the prologue and then decide whether to do the chase.
Tried to concentrate on the navigation and it went OKish. Spiked 1,2, pulled up short on another cliff at 3 (15s), spiked 4,5,6, pulled up short on another cliff at 7 (10s), got 8, overshot 9 though - kept going past a couple of people looking a bit lost but who turned out to actually be near the control - came back hesitantly and only then looked at the control descriptions - a copse - damn, that'll be those trees there then - (1'15), after that I was a bit nervous in the paths on the way to 10 and took a slightly odd route to be sure I knew where I was (20s), 11, 12 were easy but was really tired and not able to speed up for what should have been the fast running bit. Overshot 13 (15s). 23/35 men's open (ignoring listed runners who mispunched).
Also used this to try out new Inov8 Mudclaw shoes. Found out straight away on the descent to 1 that the grip is certainly good. They are quite unstable which I believe is normal for fell shoes and I was losing a lot of speed trying to avoid going over on my ankles but that's more to do with the shape I'm in rather than the shoes. Tried not using my orthotics with heel raise. I think the heels in these are slightly raised. I'll find out in the next day or two whether this was a good plan.
Altogether found this great fun but quite physical and enough for one day with a cold so declared myself a non-starter for the chase and headed home.
