Manor Water Hill Race. 81/116. +47%. Really happy I could keep running hard for 100 mins and, although there is still a long, long way to go to get fit, this is a great deal of progress from e.g. the Carnethy 5 earlier this year. Achilles sore but not too bad - hill races (rather than training runs) have previously made them very sore so that is progress too.
I seemed to be doing best on gentle downhills and gentle inclines. There were two sharp descents - once they got steep enough that it was necessary to move from a normal running stride to 'using your quads to control the speed of descent' I dropped back alarmingly relative to the people round me. So that tells me I need to work a lot on quad strength. I knew that already but it was a good clear demonstration of what I need to work on most.
