weight:78kg shoes: Mudclaw 265 (Red)

Seeing as it was Xmas I accepted an invite from a friend who is a member of a running club which is not HBT and with whom HBT has a certain ongoing friendly rivalry to join their club run up the Esk from Musselburgh to Carlops. All good fun, with the first part mostly at whole club running speed, with quite a number of pauses to wait for slower runners and/or to get over several walls along the route. Joined a group which broke away to hurtle up a railway track into Penicuik and then after lunch a faster group that was trying to make it the whole way to the source of the Esk in the Pentlands. This latter part was harder work, over open moor at a reasonable pace into a strong wind and 20 minutes after lunch (two bacon rolls and 3 coffees) I started feeling weak and must have slowed the group down for 10 mins while I felt faint and fell over a bit. Got some sugar into me (lucozade sport, sweets) and felt better after a while. Didn't do the last bit past Carlops to the Bore Stane in the gathering gloom, given that after 38k and 5 hours moving I was starting to get pretty tired.

Useful Comrades training to have so much time on my feet (probably 6 hours including standing waiting) and happy I didn't injure myself. For Comrades I'll need to figure out my eating so I don't have that kind of energy crash. I might have avoided it if I had started eating some sweet things the moment I first felt odd (and if I wasn't on a diet and didn't eat anything early on because I've got this idea you shouldn't train your body to expect jelly babies and gels, they are a bonus in a race).

Knee sort of worse rather than better for some rest. It clearly doesn't like sitting down and prefers being active.

HBT Wassail with smashing start, stops at 6 houses and two crossings of the bog. Well, I'll log it although I wasn't exactly in the aerobic zone. Knee not very happy half way through. Better at the end. Maybe it warmed up. Or maybe it was the beer. Hmmm.

Felt good after a couple of days off and running well to begin with, although legs sore by end. Knee surviving.

To SPACE again. Standing on my right leg, raising the left, everything is fine, knee above toes as a I dip, hips horizontal; standing on the left leg everything is all over the shop, so obviously needs strengthened. Work to loosen up left hip, leg and knee massaged, knee taped again. Don't try general quad strengthening yet.
