Adventure Race race (MDARA) 6:00:00 [3]

Well plenty of fun to have today, have no clue on how long it took, but i think it was around 6hrs and a bit

What a great start to the race. Checkpoint 1 - Small island. Checkpoint 2, on the otherside of the river, long dry way around. It was really interesting and funny at the same time to see everyone's tack starting the race with the cold river crossing....we were warned that we were going to get wet.

To the TA, off for a stupid climb up the hill with the bikes. It was quite obvious that people had no idea how to read a map with many people at junctions looking confused as we went past them. Good times with a control in waist high swamps and andrew laughing at me as i cursed the people that put them there.

Hill up to TA3 took a bit of out me as i attempted to tow andrew up the hill. I was stuffed. Took forever to get my running shoes on for the 3 controls on foot. Got going and rolled ankle between 1st and second one.

Down the hill on the MTB's again with a few controls on the way for a river crossing with bikes. I did not realise there was a rope there and almost lost the bike on the first crossing. Kind of got used to the fact that we were not going to be dry all that much on the race.

Into the TA for the paddle section. It was tough going upstream and my arms were very weak. I blame the avon for that. finally got back to to finish were there was a queue to get back in and we almost got capsized by someone getting in and using our canoe as a stable thing to grab onto.

Rogaine was good. We had to cross the river at some point to get across. We just went across near the TA and grabbed the furthest control on the south and made our way back to toms crossing. tRicky, tooms and fletch gave us a puzzled look when we came back from that far control as we were coming back and they were clearly in front of us. It was pretty priceless.

Back to the MTB, we should have gone clockwise on those north controls. although got to go down the downhill mtb track. Those DH guys are crazy bastards.

Cross the river with the bikes again....got used to not getting swept away by the current. Followed the signs in the nanga bush camp back to the HQ and did the final run around getting the last 3 controls. Of course the bridge one involved swimming.

Had heaps of fun. Not too hard a course overall, but certainly a challenge.

The hot shower at the end was so good and there should be more hot showers at events like these.
