Bit of a crap start to the race after loosing my control card before launching the ski at the boatshed and not realizing until I got to CP1 and went to punch on a string that had nothing attached
Bumped into ian and jen on the dinghy and they passed me this about halfway between the CP and the boatshed. from there picked up all the optional controls as well as the mandatory. Beat tricky back into the TA before the run. :)
Run started ok, a little slow in the TA. Went 11, 12, 18, 17, 16,14,13,15. Got to 15 and realised my punch card was no longer in my hand. Wasted 10 mins backtracking and eventually found it. Ran back to 15 and back to TA
Got cranking pretty quick on the MTB. Initially missed 20 and had overshot. Found it eventually. 21, 22, 23, 24 were easy. Decided to drop 30, but could have got it in hinesight. Caught a couple of teams around 24-25. Powered pretty quick along the tracks. 26 overshot and had to doubleback. Took the path all the way along the river to tonkin. Ran the bike up the stairs. Legs and arms cramped on the first flight. Took until over the bridge to recover. 27easy, 28....loved going for a swim :) 29 easy. Back into TA
I got penalized 30 mins for not having a whistle on me which is bollocks because technically the whistle was only mandatory on the last section of the orienteering which I had not completed a TA for yet and therefore was getting penalized on the MTB leg.
Section from Boundless AR rules
http://boundless-ar.com.au/?page_id=97:
Mandatory Orienteering Equipment (last section of course)
# Compass (per person)
# Whistle (per person)
Blah!
Caught a few people in the last orienteering section, but all my energy had faded so much and made a lot of mistakes between 8 and the finish line by overshooting and not finding controls that were right in front of me.
Overall pretty happy considering the 2x loses of the control card.
Found some double gee's in the back tyre. Ripped them out and the slim did its job in repairing the holes :)
