Running (Intervals) 1:10:00 [3] 9.0 mi (7:47 / mi)

Ran intervals at Holyoke Track w/ Kim and Abby. Started at Abby's house and warmed up to track. Did 6 x 800s w/ 400 recovery (3:05, 3:04, 3:06, 3:08, 3:07, 3:07). Felt ok, huge headwind on track...but worked through the intervals. Cooled down back to Abby's house on 10k course.

Easy run - felt really good and had no idea how fast I was ticking off the miles! Ran alone at Whiting Res.

Did power hike at Mt. Tom up B17 w/ Nick. One repeat only - was tired (little sleep last night).

Running (Hill tempo) 59:00 [3] 7.5 mi (7:52 / mi)

Did to Tower #1 and back behind the house w/ Brian. Felt really good and pushed all of the uphills. Brian was having a rough day, so I actually kept doubling back to get him after my surges. But, that may have been one of the fastest times I've run that route, even with the doubling back, so that felt great! :)

Couldn't sleep, so I lifted to try to tire myself out a bit more.

Again, no idea on the distance/pace, but felt really good. Ran at Earl's trails, and cruised around. Legs felt amazing!

Running (Easy run) 5:15:00 [1] 27.0 mi (11:40 / mi)

Training run at VT100 course - previewed from Camp 10 Bear to finish, plus the first 4 miles of the course. Cut out the 10-miles of roads in the middle of the run. Felt ok - relaxed pace so I ran some of the uphills that others walked. Did trail clearing as we went.

No idea the distance - but went to Pike on M&M, then ran on Old Holyoke till Reservoir, and around to get to upper Res and back to house on trails. Started at 8pm, so had to switch lights on towards the Pike. Went well - ran w/ Nick.

Lifted in the hotel gym in Exeter...was interesting to be in a 'gym' rather than lifting while watching Biggest Loser! :)

Running (Tempo surges) 1:10:00 [3] 9.0 mi (7:47 / mi)

So - this ended up being a bit shorter of a run than I wanted. But, with the stress of work this week and the heat/humidity, I didn't want to overdo it. I went to Whiting with Kim and did the tempo surges. We did 2 laps, including going up to the bottom of B17 and up to Rt. 141 to add some climbs (since the reservoir is relatively flat). We warmed up for 15 minutes, then did a 6 min, 5 min, 3 min, and 2 min interval surges. They were perhaps a bit faster than I would have liked (Kim was on a mission!), so I felt just faster than my comfort zone.

Easy 8 w/ Kim and Laura through Holyoke. Felt a bit sluggish towards the end of the run - but I'm down a few pounds these last few days (regardless of how much I think I'm hydrating) so I'm sure that didn't help.

Running (Tempo run) 1:05:00 [3] 8.5 mi (7:39 / mi)

So - the goal was to do 1 hour at 7:15s. I did this workout during a small window I had at work (around 2pm), so I got the heat of the day, and I hadn't eaten a good lunch. It started out well (getting 7:15-7:20 for my first few miles), but I faded about halfway through and ended up averaging around 7:30s for the hour. I ran alone at the reservoir, so I was excited to even get through the workout on my own, but it wasn't as good or as fast as I wanted.

Went to B17 w/ Nick and did two intervals up the hill. The first one hurt, but the second one was amazingly better. Unfortunately, we were short on time so we only did 2 repeats.

Easy run behind the house - to 202, then upper Reservoir, then short way to hill, then up around neighborhood and back. Ran w/ Brian so he lifted the pace slightly, but felt good to spin the legs. No idea the distance.

Did warm up, then ran (I wouldn't qualify it as racing) the Greylock Half Marathon. It was hot, and I just enjoyed the trails and didn't push it (didn't want to get injured!).

Easy run w/ Brian at Earl's trails. Felt the heat a bit, but mostly great in the shade.

Running (Tempo Intervals) 1:20:00 [3] 10.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Did tempo flat mile repeats at the Reservoir w/ Kim. Did ~2 mile warmup, then 6 x 1 mile repeats (6:40, 6:50, 6:45, 6:45, 6:45, 6:50). These felt much more comfortable than the last time I did them - and I was pleased to hit my target time without having to 'push' for them. Did ~1.5 mile cooldown. My legs are tight post-run, but I am pleased after a long/hard week to feel comfortable at this pace.

Note

Was supposed to run this morning - but my ankle was pretty stiff last night - sore to move it in any direction. I slept with a frozen water bottle under my ankle for the night. Feels ok (at least normal, not too stiff) today, but I'm still waiting until the afternoon to run.

Running (Tempo run) 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Ran at Holyoke Reservoir. Jumped into the 5k race, just to see how it would go (and planned to go easy, but when I found myself as the lead female, I ended up cruising a bit faster). Did nice long warmup, then 5k race (20:03 - not bad, considering it felt easy), then cooldown post-race. I'm pleased.

Easy morning run w/ Kim and Laura. Felt great to start, and fatigue of hills yesterday got me towards the end. But, added more at beginning and end to get my mileage in.

Walking (Hiking/running) 1:45:00 [1] 9.5 mi (11:03 / mi)

Met w/ Nick at Mt. Tom - ran short way around Whiting, and then up B17 x 3, then ran back to cars. Felt hard, but better on 3rd rep than other times hiking. Tried to run the downhills pretty hard.

Hill repeats at Mt. Tom. Did warmup and first few w/ Abby (but she's in taper, so she only did a few). Did 15 x 1 min on, 1 min off, up B17. After the first few, I settled into the same pace, making the same mark each time up. Could feel the fatigue in my legs, but it was a good workout.

Easy run to Tower #1 and back (w/ Brian). Slower pace, Brian had to keep stopping to tie his shoes, 'use the woods', etc., but I didn't mind the slower pace!

Easy trail run on Midstate Trail w/ Ron and Chris (WAMPs). Went super easy with pace and enjoyed the time on feet.

Easy run - preview of Mt. Greylock Half Marathon course. Has a ton of climbing at the beginning - technical trails back down.

Running (Tempo Intervals) 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Ran at Whiting Reservoir w/ Kim. Did ~15 minutes warmup, then 15 x 1 minute on, 1 minute off, and 15 minutes cooldown. Intervals felt hard - I think Kim was pushing the tempo just a bit, but it was good. I was able to keep with her except for the last one (that she sprinted).

Easy run with the girls in Holyoke. Felt dizzy when I woke up, so I was nervous about running, but it was fine. Legs feel much better than I thought they would considering my last few days.

Running tempo (Hill tempo) 2:00:00 [3] 12.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Hill tempo workout with Erik and Abby. Ran long way around Whiting Res. for warmup, then to B17 hill. Ran steady up B17 hill (unsure, between 12-15% grade, steady, I think - between 1.1 and 1.25 mile) x 3 - 13:15, 13:30, 13:40. Really hurt the 3rd time but luckily Erik did a third one with me to keep me company. Short cooldown back to car. Ugghh - this workout HURT!

Walking (Hiking/running) 1:15:00 [1] 7.0 mi (10:43 / mi)

Ran short way to B17 hill, then did 2 x hiking repeats up w/Nick. Felt much stronger with hiking. Ran semi-hard on way down to push the tempo and burn the quads. Ran short way back to car.

Easy run - started at Holyoke Reservoir and ran to Abby's house to meet with her and Laura. Then, did 8 mile loop in Holyoke (meaning, hills!) and then ran back to the car afterwards. I felt sluggish but luckily the girls were also a bit sluggish so we all poked along together. Legs felt better as the run went on, altho I did struggle up the last big hill of the day.

Again, don't know the mileage - went to the big uphill before Tower #1 and back. Felt so sluggish, but at least I was running. Took it easy and turned back earlier than I was planning to, but know I need to relax if I want to resume training soon.

Easy hike behind the house - to overlook at 4-way and back - with Brian. My legs felt tired, but no particular pain. Ready to resume training soon!

Running race (Ultra race) 9:58:48 [4] 54.0 mi (11:05 / mi)

No idea the distance (yes, that's right, we have no idea the distance of this ultra!). But, did the Pittsfield Peaks Ultra. It went well - I felt great and steady throughout the race - no stomach issues, and the legs were ready to roll all day. Finished an hour faster than last year, and I think the course was longer than last year. Finished an hour behind Brian (which is fast for me, but to be fair he wasn't going 110%).

Ok - so I did something stupid. I had the opportunity to run a portion of the VT100 course (mile 23 to 47) and I had to take it (thinking of the big picture, not the 50 I had less than 48 hours later). We did a relaxed pace (course clearing as we went) and I enjoyed the run. I totally blanked several portions of the course from last year, but I guess the early miles passed before I started to pay attention.

Easy 1.5 mile run at Reservoir - just wanted to shake out the legs before my massage. Did some stretching afterwards also.
