Running (Easy trail run) 1:25:00 [1] 10.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Easy run w/ Frank B. around the Earl's Trails loop. Felt good - super relaxed pace, but still a good time...hmmm...

Friday Mar 30, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 55:00 [1] 7.25 mi (7:35 / mi)

Easy run w/ Aaron J. - around bike path and Amherst College trails. Felt ok. :)

XC Team Run (Coaching) 45:00 [1] 4.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Easy run with the athletes - I was showing them two simple workouts...so we warmed up, then did 3 x hill sprints, then did 4 x 30 sec on/off. Cooled down easy.

Thursday Mar 29, 2012 #

Biking (Spinning) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Easy spin this moring, while I finished up my book for tonights book club! Just in time! My hammies are a bit tight still, but otherwise I feel good.

XC Team Run 45:00 [1] 5.5 mi (8:11 / mi)

Easy run w/ team - paced mostly with Jesse (but also with Jonathan) - doubled back for everyone else. Ran easy around the Holyoke Res. Did running form work afterwards (drills).

Wednesday Mar 28, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 58:00 [1] 7.5 mi (7:44 / mi)

Easy trail run w/ Nicole around Smith. We did the Smith College trails, and connected both 'sides of the river' by a few miles of road. The legs feel ok, but I am just a bit tired - I can feel the fatigue on the uphills.

Tuesday Mar 27, 2012 #

Running (Easy trail run) 1:20:00 [1] 8.5 mi (9:25 / mi)

Easy trail run w/ Kelsey - ran from my house to Sugarloaf, and then around to the backside (to allow the sun to rise!), and over the PRT back to the cars and back to my house. Legs feel surprisingly good...even with the climbing.

Monday Mar 26, 2012 #

XC Team Run (Easy run) 50:00 [1] 5.5 mi (9:05 / mi)

Easy run from Elms with team - ran mostly with Rachel...ran to Van Horne, around the park a bit, and then back. Felt surpisingly good considering I just raced hard a few days ago. :) We did a touch of strength work before the run.

Sunday Mar 25, 2012 #

Biking (Easy spin) 45:00 [1] 10.0 mi (4:30 / mi)

Easy spin on the bike...legs feel ok, just a bit tired...felt it was good to just relax for the day.

Saturday Mar 24, 2012 #

Running (Ultra Race) 5:55:00 [3] 34.0 mi (10:26 / mi) +3500ft 9:31 / mi

Bel Monte '50k' - trail race with tons of climbing, and a lot of fun. Felt good, went out a bit harder than normal, since there were a few ladies on my tail, but settled into my groove around mile 15...ran strong through mile 30, but struggled on the last few miles up the hill to the finish line - I think I just wasn't mentally prepared to be out there for almost 6 hours. But, feel like I ran strong and well over the terrain, and was able to open up the stride pretty good on the road sections.

Friday Mar 23, 2012 #

Walking (Hiking) 1:00:00 [1] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Easy hike with Brian - we hiked into a portion of the Bel Monte course, to appreciate the views when we're not racing! It was nice.

Thursday Mar 22, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:15:00 [1] 7.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Easy run around Mt. Sugarloaf w/ Aaron J. - went up long way, then did mountain bike loop and returned. Felt good!

Wednesday Mar 21, 2012 #

Running (Hills) 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 mi (8:45 / mi) +1500ft 7:26 / mi

This was going to be my 'run going a bit harder on the hills', but since I was forced to do this run before work, and it was dark and incredibly foggy when we started, it turned into hill repeats. Ran w/ Kelsey - we warmed up around S. Deerfield, and then started up Sugarloaf, and did 2 x road hills (one each way...and going left f-ing hurt!)...and then did a trail hill cause it was getting light enough. Then, cooled down by going down the hill and around the backside.

Running (Easy run) 1:15:00 [1] 9.5 mi (7:54 / mi)

Easy run on bike path w/ Aaron J. and Mike O. - from the gym up to Amherst Woods and back.

Tuesday Mar 20, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:35:00 [1] 12.4 mi (7:40 / mi)

Easy run around Holyoke with Laura and Annie - did the 'Highlands' loop, then did a lap around the Reservoir. It felt good, except Annie kept trying to 'tempo' parts of the run and I kept trying to slow her back down and keep it easy pace. Oh well, great to run with these ladies, and interesting to run on the road again after all last week on the trails!

Walking (Hiking) 2:15:00 [1] 6.5 mi (20:46 / mi)

Hiked the Seven Sisters ridge with Jenny...it was awesome weather, and the views were great without leaves on the trees. But, I had forgotten how tough this trail is...don't know how I ever raced this! :)

Monday Mar 19, 2012 #

Biking (Easy spin) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Easy spin...needed the relaxing day after so much training last week!

Sunday Mar 18, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 2:30:00 [1] 14.0 mi (10:43 / mi)

Easy run around Sugarloaf - ran from the house to meet up with Frank B., then we ran up the PRT to the mtn. bike trails - did a few laps, then ran down the back of N. Sugarloaf to the road, and back along the 'shortcut' trail, then hiked up and over S. Sugarloaf. No idea the distance, but we did a bit of hiking, and were more relaxed in pace than typical for me. Great run - great weather!

Saturday Mar 17, 2012 #

Running (Progression Run) 3:30:00 [2] 22.0 mi (9:33 / mi)

Ran at Notch (Norwottuck side) w/ Brad. Hard to judge distance/pace, but we ran relaxed for the first half of the run (~2 hours), and then picked up the pace for the last 1.5 hours of the run (something about similar brother issues helped us to pick up the pace without even thinking about it). Was a good run - just a dreary morning for being outside. Felt good!

Friday Mar 16, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:30:00 [1] 9.5 mi (9:28 / mi)

Easy run w/ Nick at Mt. Tom - tried to stick to the 'flattest loop' that I could find, but did add in Goat Peak when we needed just a bit more time on the trails. Good run.

Thursday Mar 15, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:25:00 [1] 8.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Easy run at Mt. Tom (with plenty of climbing!) with Frank and Greg...but it was interesting...we started about an hour before the sun came up, and my headlamp lasted about 15 minutes into the run. Luckily, Greg had a spare light on him (a super dim flashlight), so I borrowed his...leaving him (the guy with one eye) with only his headlamp...good one Amy. Anyway, we stuck to as flat of trails as you could hit on Mt. Tom, due to me being slow on the hills due to hill repeats yesterday and Greg being dead on everything due to doing 18 miles the day before. Oh well - great run.

Running (Easy run) 2:00:00 [1] 13.0 mi (9:14 / mi)

Easy run w/ Jeff at Highland State Park - felt a bit sluggish on some of the longer climbs (up to Poet's Seat, etc.), but it was fun to run somewhere new and enjoy the trails up there.

Wednesday Mar 14, 2012 #

Running (Hill Repeats) 1:20:00 [3] 8.0 mi (10:00 / mi) +2000ft 8:05 / mi

Hill repeats - first of many? Ran from my house to the Loaf to meet Jeff and Aaron, and we ran to the backside of Sugarloaf. I decided to do the repeats up the trail on the backside - it's a bit more runnable than the trail on the front side, but a bit shorter/steeper than the road...I'm guessing it's about .6 or .7 mile total (and about 500 feet elevation) - took me about 6.5 or 7 minutes total per interval (depending on the start point). Legs felt dead on the hill...but I think that's just normal for me on hills! Did 4 repeats, and then recovered around the mountain and back home again. Glad to have done that

Tuesday Mar 13, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:25:00 [1] 10.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Easy run at Earl's Trails w/ Brad - did my typical longer route, and felt good...loving that I can run in shorts and t-shirt! :)

Monday Mar 12, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:55:00 [1] 10.0 mi (11:30 / mi)

Easy run on the Mt. Tom trails - no idea the distance, but there was so much climbing and sketchy downhill running, I'm sure it wasn't fast. Felt good, tho, to run around on the ups/downs. Ran with Brian for most of it, until we ran into Ross and Chris...and they stole Brian for some 'man talk', and I ran the rest of the way alone. Beautiful weather - 70s - in shorts and t-shirt, and sweating!!!

Sunday Mar 11, 2012 #

Note

Lazy day...I was supposed to get in an easy 1-1.5 hour run...and just with other stuff going on, I let the day pass and never got out to run. I feel guilty now about it, but at this point there's nothing I can do.

Saturday Mar 10, 2012 #

Running (Long run) 3:15:00 [1] 20.0 mi (9:45 / mi)

Easy run around the trails w/ Nick, Frank, and Jeff - we did the big loop at Earl's Trails, then did 2 x small loop, and Frank and I ran on the RFT to the back of Norwottuck and back to add a bit of distance. I felt great - relaxed, and really like I never got 'tired' even as the time wore on.

Friday Mar 9, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:25:00 [1] 10.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Easy run w/ Aaron, from my house, around Sugarloaf trails, and back. Felt like we were moving well - Aaron even commented that he felt like the pace was faster than normal (altho it was the same effort), so it's nice to hear that someone notices that I must be getting faster or more comfortable on the trails.

Thursday Mar 8, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:15:00 [1] 10.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Easy run w/ Aaron J. around bike path and Amherst College/Groff Park trails. Felt good - it was mid-40s by the time we ran...and felt great to run in such warm conditions...

Running (Easy run w/ tempo) 1:25:00 [3] 10.9 mi (7:48 / mi)

Easy run w/ Nicole and Laura - did the bike path/Look Park loop. I wanted to add in a bit of tempo, so once we hit Look Park, we did a double loop at tempo pace. I felt good, really stretched the legs out, and did 2.8 miles in 18:15 (6:30s?), so that's great. Great run, especially for my 2nd run of the day. We did all feel a bit sluggish on the first 4 miles up to Look Park, but felt much better on the return trip. :)

Wednesday Mar 7, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:02:00 [1] 8.0 mi (7:45 / mi)

Easy run at the track...some of the ladies were doing a track workout, but I'm opting out this week! :) So, it was laps while catching up with the ladies.

Tuesday Mar 6, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:25:00 [1] 9.0 mi (9:27 / mi)

Easy trail run - Brian and I met up to do the Earl's Trails loop from Chumera Rd. There was snow on the entire loop, so it slowed us, but it was only 5 minutes slower for the entire loop...so that's not that bad. Felt good - hammie still a bit tight, but in general was good to get out on the trails.

Monday Mar 5, 2012 #

Biking (Easy spin) 40:00 [1] 10.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Easy spin...but had to cut it short to go to the car dealership...yup, I'm getting a new car. That will be the stress of the week! :)

Sunday Mar 4, 2012 #

Running race (Ultra Race) 2:45:00 [4] 21.7 mi (7:36 / mi)

Caumsett 50k - I felt good, in general...but had no company for the run (and headphones aren't allowed)...and after about 3 or 4 laps, I was just mentally bored and didn't want to continue. I pushed through 7 laps, but really that's as much as I could do before I would start to hate running. I am totally ok with my decision - I don't run to try to suffer and hate it, I run because I love it and want to have fun...and this jsut wasn't it. I'm a bit embarrassed that I drove so far, and entered into a race that so much isn't me that I couldn't stick with it. Oh well. At least it was a long run at a good pace, and the legs felt good.

Saturday Mar 3, 2012 #

Note

Basically took the day off - the legs were sore in weird places due to the snow running...and I just wanted to stretch them out. But, with a few crazy days at work with the weather, it was also nice to just sleep in and relax for the day.

Friday Mar 2, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:05:00 [1] 5.5 mi (11:49 / mi)

Easy snow run around the Earl's Trials with Ashley - it was entirely unbroken trail, so I broke the trail (I knew where they went, mostly!) - was fun, but tiring, even at a slower pace. :)

Thursday Mar 1, 2012 #

Running (Snow run) 1:35:00 [1] 8.5 mi (11:11 / mi)

No idea the distance run today - ran from my house to Sugarloaf, and then did a super snow run (about 8" of fresh powder, unbroken trail). Aaron, Brian and I took turns breaking trail, and we weren't moving fast at times, but it was a super fun run! Ran the Pocumtuck Trail to the backside, and then the short-cut single track to return to the Pocumtuck trail again. This was one of those runs where if you didn't have fun, perhaps you weren't enjoying trail running like you should. :)
