Note

Didn't mean to take the day off, but I was feeling so sick that I went home early and rested for the day...perhaps it's a cold, perhaps it's allergies, but whatever, it knocked me out.

Wednesday May 30, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 35:00 [1] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Easy run w/ Laura and Kim around Holyoke. Nice to take it easy and short (so I could run with Kim!).

Tuesday May 29, 2012 #

Note

Day off - coach says!

Monday May 28, 2012 #

Walking (Hiking) 45:00 [1] 2.0 mi (22:30 / mi)

Easy hike up Sugarloaf w/ Annie, Ale, and Sophia. Was fun, and about all I wanted to do for the day!

Sunday May 27, 2012 #

Running race (Ultra!) 7:30:00 [4] 50.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Pineland Farms 50 miler! Felt mostly good (not great, but good), and ran a solid and smart race. Focused on running by feel rather than thinking about pace - but ran the entire way which is a huge stepping stone for me. Wish my time was a bit faster, but in general I should be pleased with this effort!

Saturday May 26, 2012 #

Running (Shake-out run) 25:00 [1] 3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Super easy shake-out run - ran a portion of the Pineland Farms course - enough to wake the legs up and warm up to stretch.

Friday May 25, 2012 #

Note

Rest day - trying to conserve my energy in hopes that I have a great day on Sunday! :)

Thursday May 24, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 45:00 [1] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Super easy run around the ridge trail (and exploring some side trails). Funny, I am so busy at work that I didn't look carefully at what I was supposed to run today - thought it was 5-6 miles, and apparently it was 6-7 miles...so I ran a bit short. Oh well, I'm not worried about it.

Wednesday May 23, 2012 #

Running (Mostly easy run w/ tempo) 1:30:00 [3] 10.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Ran from the house to Sugarloaf, around bike loop and back w/ Aaron. Felt good even with the extreme humidity (I was dripping!). Cranked it up to tempo for the bike loop portion and felt good, felt like my stride opened up and I was moving well - swiftly on downhills and flats, and fairly efficiently on the uphills. The rest of the run went well - nice to have the last 'hard effort' done before Pinelands! :)

Tuesday May 22, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:30:00 [1] 10.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Had a great easy run at Sugarloaf - ended up going just a bit farther than expected since I ran into Kelsey and hadn't run iwth her in a while so I tacked on a few miles to catch up with her! Great to see her!

Monday May 21, 2012 #

Biking 1:10:00 [1] 17.0 mi (4:07 / mi)

Easy spin. :)

Sunday May 20, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:25:00 [1] 10.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Easy run around Earl's Trails...legs felt a-ok after I got them rolling...but were a bit tight when I started.

Saturday May 19, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 2:20:00 [1] 16.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Easy run around Earl's Trails w/ Nick...we got a bit lost, so we ran longer than expected. Oops...

Friday May 18, 2012 #

Note

I wanted to do Thursday's workout today after my eye doctor visit, but Kim dialated my eyes so I couldn't see after the visit and ran out of time...yikes!!

Thursday May 17, 2012 #

Note

Ended up taking the day off - just ran out of time to get in the run with everything that's been going on. Figure I can do the workout on Friday instead...

Wednesday May 16, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:30:00 [1] 10.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Easy run w/ Aaron to Sugarloaf, around bike trails and back. Felt mostly ok...hammies are still tight.

Tuesday May 15, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:15:00 [1] 8.0 mi (9:22 / mi)

Easy run around Hopkinton State Park - was out there for a conference, so I took the opportunity to run around on the trails there...I spend the first few minutes looping around and around and not getting far, but eventually found a great network of trails. Legs still feel tight, but loosened up as I was running. Uphills still feel a bit harder than they should - Friday's appointment with my ART cant' come soon enough!

Monday May 14, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:15:00 [1] 8.5 mi (8:49 / mi)

Easy run on the ridge trail...legs felt tight at first, but loosened up as I ran. The hammie was super tight, so I just did what I could to open up the stride. Hopefully things will feel better for this afternoon's run.

Running (Easy long run) 1:50:00 [1] 12.5 mi (8:48 / mi)

Easy longer run around Sugarloaf. Know that I was moving pretty slowly, due to tight hammies (I have an appointment for Friday to take care of it!), but did my best to open up the stride...moved better as the run went on. But, I reached my first 'check point' about 3 minutes slower than expected, ran the next section about a minute faster than expected (so I was 2 minutes behind), and from there finished my run about where I expected. Phew.

Sunday May 13, 2012 #

Running (Long/hard run) 3:20:00 [3] 26.2 mi (7:38 / mi)

Long and hard effort - was supposed to do 20-24 mile progression...and since all of my training buddies were either in recovery from their own races or racing, I decided to jump into a marathon (only slightly longer than what I was supposed to do)...but figured it would keep me running long and hard. It went ok...felt good and smooth through about 13 mile (1.5 hours), then hit a rough patch where the sun was bearing down on me and the legs just wanting to stop moving...and then at about mile 20 everything came alive for me again (2.5 hours...sensing the pattern?) and I was able to really open up the stride and feel great over the last 6 miles.

Saturday May 12, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 50:00 [1] 7.0 mi (7:09 / mi)

Easy run...but I must have been pushing it since I literally flew around the trails (well, it's barely a trail) this morning. Just opened up the stride and felt like I was cruising without trying to tempo...oh well. Great to have these days! I was surprised that my knee felt totally ok - I did foam roll the crap out of it last night, but still...awesome! :)

Friday May 11, 2012 #

Biking (spinning) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

So...I wasn't supposed to cross train today - but my knee was in PAIN today (I think maybe after a small fall towards the end of yesterday's run?) - it hurt specifically to walk up or down stairs...I didn't dare try to run - I was too scared. Oh well. It means I pushed my Friday, Saturday, and Sunday runs back a day to give me a day to test the knee out before I would do my back-to-back long days.

Thursday May 10, 2012 #

Running (Tempo) 1:30:00 [3] 10.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Ran w/ Jeff at Amethyst - ran over Mt. Orient (for the warmup), then did 3 x ~15 minute tempo efforts (~4 minute recovery) - we didn't have a GPS or measured distance to use for these efforts. Either way, it felt mostly ok, altho the uphill tempo efforts were tough (as always when my legs aren't 100%). We ran from Orient along the RFT to the road crossing, then did a loop across the road (where I got lost when doing the RFT Marathon), and then back to the 'jeep trail' and back. Did about 15 minutes cool down. Fell towards the end of the run - just was dragging the foot and tripped on a rock...and skidded on one side of my body (on dirt)...thought it was ok, but the next day my knee hurt, so wonder if I banged something up good with the fall.

Wednesday May 9, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:20:00 [1] 10.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Easy run around Earl's Trails...felt good, and stride felt really solid. Had to squeeze it in between work and coaches meeting at Elms, so I might have pushed the pace a bit without thinking about it...but pleased with a solid run and obviously I was feeling good.

Tuesday May 8, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:05:00 [1] 7.5 mi (8:40 / mi)

Easy run w/ Aaron to top of N. Sugarloaf and back...legs actually felt pretty a-ok...how is that possible? Anyway, great run in the rain.

Monday May 7, 2012 #

Biking (Spin) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Easy spin at the house...had to get this in before work since I had a committment in the evening. Legs feel ok, just a bit sore at some of the attachment points (from the uneven surfaces), but otherwise surprisingly not sore.

Sunday May 6, 2012 #

Walking (Easy hike) 1:00:00 [1] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Hike w/ Brian around S. Deerfield and up/over Sugarloaf. Legs feel good...sluggish, but good.

Saturday May 5, 2012 #

Running (Ultra Trail Race) 5:15:00 [4] 31.0 mi (10:10 / mi)

Bear Mountain 50k - after my last 2 attempts on the 50 miler at Bear Mountain...pretty excited to have a great expereince on the 50k course. The race went well - legs felt good (except for the sluggishness I always feel 1.5-2.5 hours into a long effort)...was especially pleased to have some great turnover over the last 10 miles, it was rare for me to feel like I can really push it over the last stretch, but I loved it! :) Great time for that course, especially with the mud and tree damaged that slowed everyone down.

Friday May 4, 2012 #

Note

Day off - work and travel day...but that's about it! Ready to rock the Bear Mountain course.

Thursday May 3, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 52:00 [1] 7.0 mi (7:26 / mi)

Easy run along the ridge to Eaglebrook and back. I was surprised at the time/pace - I felt good and just stretch the legs out, but wasn't trying to push the pace at all...still ran it faster than I have before (by far). :)

Wednesday May 2, 2012 #

Running (Easy run) 1:30:00 [1] 10.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Easy run w/ Brian from the house, up to Sugarloaf and around the mountain biking trails. Felt good...nothing special about this run.

Tuesday May 1, 2012 #

Running 1:25:00 [3] 11.5 mi (7:23 / mi)

Track workout - mile repeats. Met Brian and warmed up on the Smith College trails...did about 4 miles easy. The track was lonely, as Brian ran ahead and did his own workout, plus the backside of the track was a huge headwind...so I surprised myself with the repeats in 6:09, 6:06, 6:07, 6:06, 6:03 (easy 1/4 mile recovery) - goal of 6:10s. Woohoo! Happy that this workout went better than planned - and while I was working super hard, this felt great to stretch out the stride and turn the legs over. Cooled down to the car, about 1 mile.
