Yoga 20:00 [1]

Stretching, yoga, and some light strengthening.

Biking (Spin) 2:00:00 [1] 30.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Spun for 2 hours...got really revved up this time - was watching the marathon olympic trails and last year's Ironman Kona...was great!!!

Saturday Mar 30, 2013 #

Biking (Spin) 2:00:00 [1] 30.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

All I can do is spin...and I don't have much patience for it. But, I went for 2 hours. Phew. Everything is super sore from the massage, but that's a great feeling. Hamstring still hurts.

Biking (Spin) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Spun in the morning - frustrating to not be running...but don't want to lose everything. Stretched a ton afterwards - hamstring still twinges a bit.

Biking (Spin) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Spun in the afternoon - frustrating to not be running...but don't want to lose everything. Stretched a ton afterwards - hamstring still twinges a bit. Got a massage this afternoon, so everything is extremely sore now!!!

Note

Hamstring hurts...don't know what's causing this! I stretched a ton, rolled, and took it easy. Not doing anything for a few days to see what happens.

Running (Track workout) 55:00 [3] 7.5 mi (7:20 / mi)

Track workout - warmed up about 10 minutes, then jumped into Kelsey B.'s workout of 4 x 1200 @ 6:20 pace...should have felt like tempo, but it felt a bit harder for me...recovery was about 2 min/1/4 mile. Cooled down for about 10 minutes easy. Quick in and out. Workout felt a bit hard, but again, I've never donated blood during heavy training, so I don't know how this will affect me...seems like I jsut didn't have turnover/speed this morning. Oh well - glad to at least get in a workout, regardless of what it was.

Running 24:00 [1] 3.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Ran from Subaru shop (car was getting work done) to Steph's house. Felt good, nice to stretch things out after the workout this morning.

Running (Run/hike) 1:00:00 [1] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)

Started as an easy run with Steph, and my stupid hamstring started hurting again, just like last time. Don't know what set it off. I ran easy, stopped to stretch a few times, and it just kept hurting. We walked around on the trails a bit, and returned home pretty gloomy.

Monday Mar 25, 2013 #

Running (Easy run) 1:20:00 [1] 10.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Easy run - did about 35 minutes on my own...waiting for Sarah to join me, then we did another 45 minutes easy around the bike path. Sarah is getting over a cold, so the pace was good, but she had to stop to cough a few times. Poor girl! Glad to have an easy day!

Sunday Mar 24, 2013 #

Running (Easy snow run) 2:15:00 [1] 12.0 mi (11:15 / mi)

Super easy snow run...Meghan was really tired, so she just struggled with the run. We were breaking trail, and it was a bit exhausting...but I felt bad to keep running away from her. Oh well - my body is still pretty tired, so I didn't mind the easy pace. :)

Saturday Mar 23, 2013 #

Note

Took a day off - I was just so tired that I hung out at home...rested (which I said I did earlier this week, but I still didn't have a day off!)...it was great. Especially given yesterday's run, it was what was likely needed.

Friday Mar 22, 2013 #

Running (Trail run) 1:00:00 [1] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Trail run w/ Brad...as usual, his pace is a bit faster than mine, and I did what I could to keep up without working too hard. The trails were covered in snow, so it was slushing around (and I wore shoes that had me skidding out pretty regularly!). Oh well, good run.

Walking (Run/walk) 1:30:00 [1] 6.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

This started as an easy run w/ Steph, but I got lightheaded about 2 miles into it, so we walked the rest of the way. I've never donated blood during training, so it's an experiment to figure out how much I can push my body and how it all goes...I guess doing run #2 the day after donating was too much. Oh well. Glad Steph was ok with a hike instead of a run. :)

Thursday Mar 21, 2013 #

Running (Easy run) 1:05:00 [1] 8.0 mi (8:07 / mi)

Easy run w/ Mike around Amherst...was super early and we were slogging around - but glad to get some time in.

Note

When my afternoon running plans got cancelled, I opted to donate blood instead. We'll see how that affects running over the next few days (if at all). It's been a while...
Considering the stressful week I've had, and limited sleep I've gotten...this might not be the training week I was hoping it would be. Bummer!!!

Wednesday Mar 20, 2013 #

Running (Easy run) 1:00:00 [1] 7.0 mi (8:34 / mi)

Easy snow run w/ Abby - again, the roads were in rough shape, and I kept slipping around on black ice, but we did an hour around Holyoke.

Running (Easy run) 1:08:00 [1] 8.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Easy run w/ Sarah around E'town...I needed to talk and vent and deal with things - thank goodness Sarah could do that for me!

Tuesday Mar 19, 2013 #

Biking (Spin) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Spun on the trainer this morning. We have about 4 inches of fresh powder outside, so it was great to work up a sweat without playing in the weather. Calves still a bit tight.

Running (Easy snow run) 1:00:00 [1] 6.5 mi (9:14 / mi)

Easy snow run around S. Deerfield w/ Brian...it was slow going, but we wanted to at least get a bit of training and running in. We did what we could - and Brian didn't complain once (a small miracle).

Monday Mar 18, 2013 #

Running (Easy run) 1:15:00 [1] 8.0 mi (9:22 / mi)

Easy run w/ Aaron S. and Brian around Sugarloaf...we basically played wherever we could that didn't have snow, so that limited us to just one side of the mountain. Oh well - was fun...but my calves were like super tight balls - surprisingly the rest of my body felt relatively ok.

Sunday Mar 17, 2013 #

Running (Road race) 2:07:00 [4] 17.1 mi (7:26 / mi)

Ran New Bedford Half Marathon...warmed up a bit with Sarah and Madeline, then ran the race...our warmup ran long, and we almost missed the start (after doing a 1-mile pickup to make it in time...), then we were on our way. I ran well through about 8 miles, and then I jsut died...things started to ache a bit, and legs were lead. I struggled through the last 5 miles, increasingly slow with each stride (finishing in 1:35, yuck!). After finishing we did a few more miles so I could get in 17 miles - enough to make it my first 100-mile training week of 2013. At least that's something. I was more sore after this race than after many of my longer/harder efforts...so I guess I did give it what I had, I just didn't have much.

Saturday Mar 16, 2013 #

Running (Easy run) 1:15:00 [1] 9.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Easy run w/ Jess and Amanda - did the bike path/dirt road route in E'town, Noho...great to run with them both, and it was really a pretty day. We visited the Bulb Show at Smith afterwards - so it was a great time! :)

Friday Mar 15, 2013 #

Running (Easy run) 1:10:00 [1] 8.6 mi (8:08 / mi)

Easy run through Northampton w/ Kelsey. Was cold, and I was super tired...so glad to have company to keep me going. :)

Running (Easy run) 55:00 [1] 7.0 mi (7:51 / mi)

Easy run w/ Dana around Amherst College and on their trails. Felt great...nice to run with her, it had been a few weeks. Trails were a bit drier than the other day, improving each day!

Thursday Mar 14, 2013 #

Running (Super easy run) 1:50:00 [1] 11.5 mi (9:34 / mi)

Did a super easy run w/ Steph and Meghan...at their pace. Felt good to just take my time and not worry about pace at all. :) Ran around Amherst College and bike path (mostly trails)...so much fun!

Wednesday Mar 13, 2013 #

Running (Easy run) 1:06:00 [1] 8.1 mi (8:09 / mi)

Easy run w/ Abby around Holyoke...we were both tired, and kinda hobbled along...but glad to get in a full hour with her! :) I am a bit beat up from 4 long/hard days in a row...but it's good for me! Funny to run one of the old Holyoke routes, but from Abby's new house.

Running (Trail run) 1:15:00 [1] 8.0 mi (9:22 / mi)

I ran on dirt today! Yay! Brad and I hit up Batchelor St., and it's snow-free. I was so happy. The legs are a bit tired, but I had so much fun that I didn't care! :)

Tuesday Mar 12, 2013 #

Running (Indoor Track workout) 1:10:00 [4] 9.0 mi (7:47 / mi)

I'm back baby! :) The last real test for the hammie was to push the pace and see how it goes. It was a great group of us ladies this morning, and we joined the CFers workout of 10 x 600. After warming up, I wanted to start these at tempo pace, and crank the pace down as I knew the hammie is ok, so I got: 2:22, 2:16, 2:14 x 5, 2:13, 2:11. Felt great! Recovery ~300m each, and little time for cooldown before work. Oh well - I'm happy the legs are ok!

Running (Easy run w/ hills) 1:15:00 [1] 8.0 mi (9:22 / mi)

Easy run at Whiting with Frank...it was a miserable, rainy day, but the first time I've run in shorts this year, so it wasn't all bad. Frank and I decided to attack the ski hill - twice up, to mix things up and make a good day out of a crummy one. The second time up hurt...but it was just crazy to be running in sloppy quicksand mud, up frozen rivers, and through ankle-deep snow...fun times. Glad Frank's as crazy as I am.

Monday Mar 11, 2013 #

Running (Easy run) 55:00 [1] 7.0 mi (7:51 / mi)

Easy run around Northampton with the girls...nice to have a slightly faster run and still have the leg feel ok. :)

Running (Easy run) 54:00 [1] 7.0 mi (7:43 / mi)

Easy run w/ Sarah after work...around E'town. Felt great. :)

Sunday Mar 10, 2013 #

Running (Snow run) 2:50:00 [1] 16.0 mi (10:37 / mi)

Easy snow run on Earl's Trails and Mt. Nowottuck trails w/ Vanessa. Felt great to play in the snow, and feel ok (leg-wise). For fun, we ran partly up Mt. Norwottuck at the end of our run - great way to just be sure that we would feel it afterwards. I actually felt great during the run, and was glad that I'm ok and having fun!

Saturday Mar 9, 2013 #

Running (Easy run) 1:00:00 [1] 7.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Easy run w/ Abby, Kim, and Laura (the original girls!) around Holyoke...so much fun! I've missed running with this group!

Running (Easy snow run) 1:40:00 [1] 8.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

Super easy snow run w/ Meghan and her 'sister-in-law' around Earl's Trails. Not only was it super sloppy and slushy, but we had to break trail on portions of the route...plus Meghan's buddy wasn't as accustomed to snow running as we were, so we kept slowing the pace so she wouldn't kill herself out there. But, it was a super fun run. First day trying the leg on the trails - happy that everything's ok!

Friday Mar 8, 2013 #

Running (Snow run) 1:00:00 [1] 7.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Easy run on the snowy roads in Northampton w/ Kelsey. I was actually glad that it was snowing, so I wouldn't have to run fast...and could take it easy on the leg. I was tentative, but glad to see that the leg appears to be better...yay!

Thursday Mar 7, 2013 #

Biking (Easy spin) 20:00 [1] 5.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

So...I started to spin, and then felt the leg ache a bit, and decided maybe it was best to take the day off. Perhaps the leg will heal more if I give it time?

Wednesday Mar 6, 2013 #

Biking (Easy spin) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Easy spin - trying to take it easy on the leg and hope it's ok. Blah - I hate cross trianing some days!

Tuesday Mar 5, 2013 #

Biking (Easy spin) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Easy spin, hoping that the leg (which was ok yesterday, but is sore today) is happier with some time off.

Running (Easy run) 50:00 [1] 5.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Super easy run (with plenty of stretching, and walking the icy parts) in Amherst with Steph. The leg hurt a bit, so I still babied it...hoping it'll get better quickly.

Monday Mar 4, 2013 #

Erging 1:00:00 [2] 11.0 km (5:27 / km)

Did an erging workout, just trying to give the leg a bit of a rest (and hope it's ok). Warmed up for about 20 minutes, then did 10 x 250m pieces with increasing rates (16 and up)...really didn't care about the intervals, just needed to mentally break the workout into sections so I wouldn't lose focus. Happy to get in something after traveling across the country this morning!

Sunday Mar 3, 2013 #

Walking 1:30:00 [1] 4.0 mi (22:30 / mi)

Long walk around Austin - from the Terranova's house to the book store and back. Just wanted to flush the legs out (and enjoy the warmth). Everything is a bit stiff, but feels ok. Yay!

Biking (Spinning) 20:00 [2] 5.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Spun on Meredith's bike, which has the power cranks on it...so it was harder than I wanted to do for too long, and I was nervous that it would work the hammie too much. So, I did enough to get the heart rate up, and then stretched.

Saturday Mar 2, 2013 #

Running (Ultra) 9:35:00 [2] 50.0 mi (11:30 / mi)

Did Nueces 50 miler. Uuugghhh...I would have loved this course, but my stupid injured (partially torn) hamstring wasn't cooperating. I started the day not knowing if it was healed or not, and found out quickly that it was healed enough that I could shuffle, but not enough that I could actually open up the stride and race the way I wanted to. So, I swallowed the pride, shuffled along, and enjoyed the day, hoping to not injure the hamstring more than was needed.

Friday Mar 1, 2013 #

Biking (Easy spin) 1:00:00 [1] 15.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Again, just in case I'm not able to run tomorrow, I wanted to get in something today. I spun easy, and hoped for the best. According to my 'hammie test', I think I"m cleared to try to run tomorrow...just don't know if it'll hold out for 50 miles.
